Walker, Halsey Take EL Awards

Erie SeaWolves outfielder Matt Walker has been named the Eastern League's Chevrolet Player of the Week for the week ending September 1st. Walker, a native of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, batted .387 (12-for-31) with three doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI, seven runs scored and a slugging percentage of .677 in eight games last week. The 25-year old had multiple hits in four games last week, including going 2-for-5 with one double, one home run, five RBI and one run scored in the SeaWolves 5-4 victory over the Altoona Curve at Blair County Ballpark on Saturday night. The 6'2", 200 lb. slugger was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round of the June 2000 draft.

Brad Halsey, a left-handed pitcher for the Trenton Thunder, is the Eastern League's Chevrolet Pitcher of the Week for the week ending September 1st. The New Braunfels, Texas native was 2-0 with nine strikeouts and a 4.73 ERA last week. In his first start of the week, the 22-year old struck out one batter and walked two while scattering three runs on five hits in 6.1 innings of work to earn a win against the Akron Aeros at Waterfront Park. In his second start of the week the 6'1", 180 lb. hurler struck out eight batters and walked one while giving up four runs on nine hits against the Binghamton Mets, improving his record to 7-5 and lowering his ERA to 4.93 on the season. Halsey was selected by the New York Yankees in the eighth round of the June 2002 draft.
