Ohio Vortex News Release
CANTON, OH - January 9, 2010 -Adam Campellone's four goals were not enough as the Vortex fell to the St. Louis Illusion by an 11-8 margin. It was quite a homecoming for Jamie Swanner, who owns the St. Louis-based club. The largest crowd of the season cheered on the former Invader goalkeeper, but saved plenty of applause for the home team.
The St. Louis attack was led by Elvir Kafedzic, who had 4 goals and 1 assist. Keeper Ilfan Kudic paced the Illusion defense with 20 saves. Veteran Wes Sechrist provided leadership and composure on his way to 3 assists for the Vortex, while Nate Rausch had a rough night in goal for Ohio with only 9 saves.Â
The Vortex fell behind early, but fought back under the leadership of Sechrist and midfielder Allen Eller. However, the 7-3 deficit at halftime proved to be too much of an obstacle to overcome. The intensity of the home crowd was appreciated by the hard-working Vortex squad, who came up just a little short again.
"The crowd was awesome. They get you going. Every goal they celebrate," midfielder Steve Gillespie commented. "I feel the organization does well to bring in the crowd. We just need to do our part and win some more of these games."Â
