Catching up with...the Ohio Vortex

July 11, 2011 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Ohio Vortex News Release

Things are looking up for the Ohio Vortex this offseason.  The Vortex, based in Canton, OH, will begin their third season in November at the Canton Civic Center.

There are several reasons for optimism for the Vortex, who are a 501(c)3 non-profit.

Jodi Wayble has taken the position of Executive Director and the Vortex has expanded its board giving the team a greater reach and impact within the community.

The team will also be working with interns from the Akron University Sports Management program for the first time.  The Vortex will continue to host charitible organizations each game, but will look to host two schools per game, too.

Head Coach Denzil Antonio will return for a third season.  Antonio was Director of Coach for Akron Metro Futbol Club which has now taken over the Akron Summit Assault of the PDL.

John Ball has officially retired and Antonio will be charged with improving a team that went 8-8 in 2009-10, but fell to 2-14 last year.  Franchise stalwarts Steve Gillespie and Jared Dombrowski are key Vortex returnees.  Dombrowski was also hired in May as Head Coach of the Bexley High School girls soccer team.
