Ohio Vortex News Release

CANTON, OH - The Ohio Vortex were unable to bring a victory to the home crowd as they fell 11-9 to the Louisville Lightning. It was a disappointing defeat for the first game at the Canton Civic Center.

The Vortex started hot, scoring three goals in the first 12 minutes. Goals by Israel Jones, Adam Campellone, and Allen Eller helped Ohio build an early 3-0 lead before the Lightning's Safet Kovacevic scored to bring the score to 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Louisville was able to make a comeback in the second quarter. Adam Boyer was able to score a pair of goals to go along with singles from Nick Judah and former U of L star Ryan McDonald. The Vortex would keep it close with a goal from Steve Gillespie. Halftime would see the Vortex down by just a goal with a 5-4 score.

Unfortunately for the Vortex, the momentum would continue to go the Lightning's way. Four goals from Louisville would come before Campellone scored his second. Newcomer John Michael Hayden got it all started with two consecutive goals in the opening minutes of the third quarter.

The 9-5 deficit in the third quarter proved to be quite the obstacle for the Vortex. Striker Dado Grozdanic led the Ohio attack in the fourth with two goals, while Allen Eller and Adis Kuduzovic each added one of their own.

However, Louisville was able to get a goal from Judah and David Horne, who also serves as the club's GM and assistant coach.

The 11-9 loss was a tough pill to swallow for the Vortex, especially for defender Michael Furlong. "We only get one opportunity to win our first game at home, we didn't take advantage of that opportunity tonight."

Ohio looks to turn things around on Sunday with a home game against Winnipeg Alliance. Louisville heads home for a rematch with Ohio on January 8th at Mockingbird Valley.
