NEW ORLEANS (October 6, 2014) - The New Orleans VooDoo have been assigned wide receiver, Chip Reeves, defensive lineman, Wayne Dorsey and defensive back, Charles Clay, announced the VooDoo front office Monday morning.
The VooDoo has begun to build its roster for the 2015 season with the addition of WR Chip Reeves.
Reeves (5-11, 175, Troy) recently spent time with the Washington Redskins of the NFL in 2013 as a member of their practice squad.
During his collegiate career, Reeves racked up 121 receptions for 1,968 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Trojan led the Sunbelt and ranked 28th nationally averaging 87.5 yards per game in addition to leading the league in catches 20, 30, 40 and 50 yards. He finished fourth in the NCAA in catches of over 30 and 50 yards. Reeves was the only Sun Belt player to have five 100-yard receiving games this season and the first player in Troy history to do so four times.
"Chip is an explosive player who came highly recommended by a former Redskins receiver coach who worked with him," said VooDoo Head Coach Dean Cokinos. "Chip has untapped potential. He has a diverse set of tools, he can play WR, DB and return kicks which is important in the Arena Football League."
Defensive lineman Wayne Dorsey joins the VooDoo after spending time with the Iowa Barnstormers during the 2014 season.
Dorsey (6-6, 270, Ole Miss) collected three sacks in six games with the Barnstormers before being placed on the injured reserved list. After signing with the Oakland Raiders of the NFL as a priority free agent in 2012, Dorsey spent some time with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League in 2013.
During his collegiate career, the Ole Miss Rebel earned midseason All-SEC third team honors, was announced as the team captain and was listed as the team's "Top Newcomer" by Lindy's. In Junior college, Dorsey, was named the No. 1 junior college recruit in the nation by Scout.com and No.15 junior college player in the nation by Rivals.com. He earned NJCAA honorable mention All-America and 2nd team preseason All-America honors in 2009.
"Wayne is a very athletic big man who has good length," said VooDoo Head Coach Cokinos. "I am excited to give him an opportunity to get on the field for a full season as he was a highly touted pass rusher coming out of Ole Miss going into the NFL."
The VooDoo end today's transactions with the addition of defensive back Charles Clay.
Clay (5-10, 205, Hawaii) who played free safety for the Rainbow Warriors, participated in Hawaii's Pro Day where he ran a 4.44-second forty-yard dash and put up a 37-1/2" vertical jump. The NFL Draft Scout reported that at one of the NFL's Super Regional Scouting Combines, Clay had excellent times in the 20-yard shuttle drill (4.15 seconds) and 3-cone drill (6.88 seconds).
After transferring from Southern Methodist University, Clay started seven games for Hawaii, but played in all 37 games over his final three seasons. He recorded one sack, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and eight pass breakups.
