
Virginia Destroyers Training Camp Opens August 26, 2011

Virginia Beach, Virginia (August 24, 2011) A historic moment in Hampton Roads Virginia professional football history takes place on Friday, August 26, 2011. For the first time ever, the Virginia Destroyers football team and head coach Marty Schottenheimer will open training camp in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The UFL's newest franchise will hit the practice field at Princess Anne Athletic Complex located at 4001 Dam Neck Road. The practice fields the Destroyers will use are located directly across the street from the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. The approximately 70 players reporting to camp will begin arriving to the team's Chesapeake Virginia headquarters on Wednesday, August 24, two days before camp opens.
This is the first UFL season for Coach Schottenheimer, who owns the 6th best coaching record in NFL history. Coach Schottenheimer's legendary resume features head coaching jobs with the Cleveland Browns, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Washington Redskins and the San Diego Chargers.
Coach Schottenheimer says a lot of work has already been done to get the Destroyers this far. "There has been considerable preparations made to arrive at this point and we are excited to get the players on the field", said Schottenheimer. He added, "There will be competition at every position and we're looking for the best players. For the first couple of weeks coaches will focus on teaching technique and fundamentals. In the business to be successful you have to build a team that is prepared to perform. "
Virginia Destroyers practices are open to the public. Fans are invited to watch and have the opportunity to meet players after the sessions are done. Ticket information and ticket sales will also be available. Here is the schedule for the first four practices.

Get In The Game
The 2011 United Football League schedule features the Virginia Destroyers taking on the Omaha Nighthawks on opening day in Omaha on September 15, 2011. The Destroyers' home opener is the following week against the two time defending UFL Champions, the Las Vegas Locomotives.
The season opener will mark legendary NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer's first UFL game as head coach of the Virginia Destroyers. It's also the UFL coaching debut for Omaha Nighthawks' head coach Joe Moglia.
The much anticipated Destroyers home opener at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex will be against the Locos and their head coach Jim Fassel on September 24, 2011. The kickoff will take place at 7 pm. There will be lots of entertainment and activities for fans before the game during the UFL Fan Fest. And of course there will be great football action on the field.
During the third UFL season, the Destroyers will also take on the Sacramento Mountain Lions, coached by Dennis Green. The Destroyers play a six game regular season, with three games taking place at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. The season culminates with the United Football League Championship Game on either November 4 or 5 between the top two teams in the final regular season standings
