Omaha Vipers News Release
(OMAHA, NE) The Omaha Vipers had the opportunity to take their record to 6-5 but failed to hold on to the lead giving Comets yet another win in Omaha. The two teams continue their streak of beating each other on the opponent's turf. At one point in the 3rd quarter, the Vipers were up 14-6 but three unanswered goals by Missouri brought the visiting team to within 2 points. There was no more than a four point spread in the 4th quarter between the two but a 3 point goal by Comet's goalie Bardo with a shot thrown over Omaha's keeper Jose Bonti, put the Comets in the lead 21-18. A last minute goal by Johnny Torres made up 2 of those points but wasn't enough to give the Vipers a win. Final score: Comets 21, Vipers 20.
Freddy Moojen scored first for the Vipers. And three Omaha players scored a pair of goals during the game. Andre "Deco" Gustavo Sandri Silva, Johnny Torres and Chile Farias including a 3 pointer that puts him back on top of the MISL player leaderboard. Defender Ryan Junge added a 3 point goal to his total for the year. Player/coach Marcelo Fontana scored his first goal of the season and celebrated by jumping up on the wall and throwing his wife a birthday kiss. But a hat trick by Byron Alvarez and a pair of goals by Jamar Beasley along with goals by Birche, Assadpour and Bardo was what took the Comets to their 2nd win against the Vipers in Omaha.
These two "neighboring teams" will have another go at it on Sunday, January 30th at 3:05pm at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
