Victoriaville Getting Ready for 2011 QMJHL Entry

VICTORIAVILLE, Tuesday, June 15, 2010 - In preparation for the 2011 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft, which will be held from May 31 to June 4, 2011 the Victoriaville Tigres today announced the members of the organizing committee. Under the direction of Event President Alain Danault and alongside hockey legend Gilbert Perreault, who has graciously accepted to act as Honorary President, the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft promises to be an exceptional event. Furthermore, during the week of the Entry Draft, the City of Victoriaville will be celebrating its 150th anniversary while the Tigres underline their 25th season in Victoriaville.

Jean Marcotte, the team's Governor, expressed his delight at the thought of hosting one of the League's most prestigious events. "Hosting the Entry Draft as well as the entire QMJHL family is certainly a great honour. Our goal is to get the whole City excited in order to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the City of Victoriaville and our franchise's 25th year in the community in a newly renovated Colisée Desjardins. This event will attract thousands of people and will have important economic benefits for the City and our region. It is a great way to market our City and our franchise."

A committee already at work

The Victoriaville Tigres have elected Alain Danault as the event's President and Coordinator. Danault worked for the organization as its marketing director from 2004 to 2006 and has been the team's home announcer for 19 seasons. In order to help him complete this important mandate, he has recruited several passionate volunteers. "We have a first-rate host committee and each member was in Drummondville a few weeks ago to get a better understanding of the inner workings of the event. I wish to thank the Voltigeurs organization for their excellent cooperation during this whole process. All the elements are in place to make the 2011 QMJHL Draft the best ever."

"I am convinced that the Victoriaville Tigres organization will take the necessary steps to make sure that next year's QMJHL Entry Draft one for the ages. The Bois-Francs region is renowned for its hospitality. It should be quite an event," commented the Commissioner, Gilles Courteau.

Number 11 is on board

A member of the Hockey Hall of Fame and former Tigres, Gilbert Perreault, has graciously accepted the invitation to act as Honorary President. The 17-year NHL veteran and former #11 of the Buffalo Sabres is proud to be involved. "As a former player, I am very proud to support this prestigious event which will undoubtedly create great memories for our fans, the players involved and their families."

It is the second time the Victoriaville Tigres organization has hosted the QMJHL Entry Draft. They first hosted the event in 1996.
