Philadelphia KiXX News Release

Philadelphia (Friday, February 26, 2010) - The Philadelphia KiXX officially announced today that the team has come to terms with veteran forward Shawn Boney in a deal that will return him for an eighth overall season in Philadelphia. The three-time Major Indoor Soccer League champion will return to the KiXX roster this Sunday when the team hosts the Baltimore Blast at the Liacouras Center at 4:05 p.m.

"I am very pleased to be adding Shawn to the roster," head coach Don D'Ambra said of the signing. "He has a lot of experience and will be a big presence at the target forward position. I feel he will create problems for opposing defenders with his size and strength, and he will enhance our offensive attack."

Born in Tacarigua, Trinidad, Boney stands 6-foot-7 and is listed at 265 pounds. He is a winner of three indoor championships, one while playing for the Cleveland Crunch (1998-99) and twice as a member of the KiXX (2001-02, 2006-07). A Southern Connecticut State alumnus, Boney was drafted by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the second round of the 1997 Major League Soccer College Draft. He made his indoor debut later that year with Cleveland and was named to the All-Rookie Team at the conclusion of that season. He remained with the team for three years, including a championship run in his second season. After starting the 2000-01 season with the Detroit Rockers, Boney was acquired by Philadelphia via a trade. He then patrolled the turf for the KiXX for seven years and helped bring the City of Brotherly Love a pair of league titles.

Boney joined the expansion Orlando Sharks in 2008 and made an immediate impact to the first-year side upon his arrival, recording nine goals and seven assists. The Trinidadian striker then spent last season with the New Jersey Ironmen, recording three goals and four assists for 10 points in 12 matches. In 258 career regular season games, he has notched 128 goals to go with 96 assists and 116 blocks.

The KiXX welcome Baltimore to the Liacouras Center for the first time this Sunday when the two clubs face off at 4:05 p.m. Tickets for that game are available now and can be purchased by calling 1-888-888-KiXX or logging onto www.ComcastTix.com.
