BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Surge announced on Thursday, August 28 the signing of veteran forward Marc Lefebvre for the 2009-10 season.
A native of Kanata, Ont., Lefebvre appeared in 57 games with Twin City of the Southern Professional Hockey League last season, scoring 14 goals and 15 assists while accruing 49 minutes in penalties.
"Marc Lefebvre will bring a veteran presence to our locker room this season," stated head coach Steffon Walby. "He's a guy that former Sea Wolf Jeff Hutchins recommended, and suggested the Mississippi Gulf Coast as a place that he'd enjoy living. I expect a lot both on and off the ice from Marc, as he has several years of professional experience."
Lefebvre played two seasons of Major Junior hockey with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League, where he was a teammate of former Sea Wolf Chris Cava, and spent 2001-02 with the Sarnia Sting. In 156 career OHL games, Lefebvre scored 15 goals and 22 assists and earned 84 minutes in penalties.
Following his junior career, Lefebvre spent three seasons in the English Ice Hockey League, playing for the Sheffield Steelers from 2003-05 and for the Coventry Blaze in 2005-06. The 6-0, 170-pound Lefebvre scored 14 goals and 21 assists and amassed 205 minutes in penalties in 129 career EIHL games, before he returned to North America and spent the 2006-07 season with the Elmira Jackals of the now-defunct United Hockey League in 2006-07, where he scored 13 points (5g, 8a) in 54 games.
