NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Miami Marlin lefty pitcher and former Vermont Mountaineer Cody Ege made his Major League debut last night in the Marlins' 7-2 loss at San Francisco.
Ege pitched one inning. He was called up when Martin Prado was placed on the paternity list.
Ege is the second NECBL graduate to make his Major League debut in 2016 and he is the 122nd alumnus to appear in the Big Leagues. Ege becomes the 28th New England League graduate to play in the Majors this year, and the fourth to play on the 2016 Marlins. He is the 11th Mountaineer to reach the Majors.
The Rangers' 15th round selection in the 2013 Draft, Ege sparkled in his first pro season. He assembled a 0.90 ERA and 39 strikeouts and three levels in 2013. Ege was swapped to the Marlins on the 2015 trade deadline, and posted a 0.75 ERA in eight games for Miami's Triple-A New Orleans affiliate.
A Louisville Cardinal, Ege made seven starts and five relief appearances for the 2011 Vermont Mountaineers. He went 3-2 with a 3.09 ERA while striking out 25. His 46.2 innings ranked third in the NECBL.
The NECBL congratulates Cody on this significant achievement.
