Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. -Danry Vasquez blooped an RBI-single to left-center in the bottom of the ninth to give the JetHawks an Opening Night walkoff victory over the San Jose Giants, 3-2, on Thursday at The Hangar.

With Jeff Soptic (0-1) entering to pitch the ninth for San Jose, James Ramsay battled for a leadoff walk. Chan Moon moved Ramsay to second with a sacrifice bunt, and after a Phillips line-out, Vasquez came through with the game-winning hit over the head of shortstop Christian Arroyo.

Tandem starter Edison Frias (1-0) received the win, striking out four and allowing only two hits in his four scoreless innings of work.

The JetHawks entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 2-0, but manufactured a pair of runs on a squeeze bunt by Moon and a Phillips RBI-single.

The Giants took the lead in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Ryder Jones off Lancaster starter Brian Holmes. Holmes' pitch count ran high, but in 3 1/3 innings, he struck out six and walked only one. Tyler Brunnemann took over in the fourth and worked his way out of an inherited jam before pitching an additional scoreless frame.

The two clubs traded zeroes for the first three innings. San Jose starter Tyler Beede made a successful Cal League debut, striking out two and walking none while scattering four hits in his five innings of work. Brian Holmes kept pace, albeit with a much higher pitch count, reaching 54 pitches through the first two innings alone.

Chase McDonald hit two doubles, and Brett Phillips added a triple against Beede, but the JetHawks were unable to score against the right-hander.

The JetHawks (1-0) will face the Giants (0-1) again Friday at 6:30 p.m. at The Hangar, with Michael Feliz due to start for the JetHawks and Chase Johnson scheduled to pitch for San Jose.
