Richmond Renegades News Release
The Richmond Renegades today proudly announced that SPHL Defenseman of the Year and team captain, DAN VANDEERMEER, has signed for the 2008-09 season. Vandermeer led the Renegades and was tied for 5th in the SPHL in scoring last regular season with 13 goals and 57 assists for 70 points. His total included 6 power play goals and thirty power play assists. His plus 23 was a team high and third highest in the SPHL. Vandermeer appeared in all 52 regular season games for the Renegades. He was penalized a total of 89 penalty minutes. In addition to his selection as the league's top defenseman, Vandermeer was also selected as the Sher-Wood SPHL Player of the Week in November, 2007; a week in which he had 7 assists.
"Our Captain is back!" stated Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Brian Goudie. "Vandy is a huge part of our team and is the cornerstone in our run for a championship. He's the quarterback of our power play, a mainstay in our penalty kill and the leader of our team both on the ice and in the locker room. All of our veterans and younger players have a tremendous amount of respect for him. His post-season honors show the respect that the league has for him."
"Coach Goudie has been working tirelessly since last season ended to build for next season," stated President/GM Allan B. Harvie, Jr. "It's gratifying to see the rewards of his hard work coming to fruition. His number one priority was to have Vandy back. We both knew the value of having him with the club. It will be exciting for our team and the fans to have these two great friends lead the Renegades again. Having Vandy sign is the highlight of my off-season."
