Vancouver Volcanoes News Release

VANCOUVER WASHINGTON-- For the first time this season, The Vancouver Volcanoes went up against The Oregon Waves. Even without the brash outpouring of support by their own squad of young roust-a-bouts, who are usually roped off, they managed to dam up The Waves quite readily.

For a few minutes in the first quarter, The Waves looked to be the dominate team, as The Volcanoes steadily gathered themselves and started playing some basketball. Still out with an injured hand was Andre Murray, so lead scoring rested on Brad Lechtenberg, who sunk more 3-point shots this game than usual, raking up six and coming away with 21 points total.

In his second game with the team, Porter Troupe is humming the same tune as the rest: He passes well, very well, is aggressive on defense and puts the ball in the hoop. He ranked third in scoring tonight, with 14 total.

From the foul line, Vancouver put up their most impressive number, shooting %70, which is their best all season. However, the overall percentage of shots on basket from 3-point range was down, totaling only %34 for the game--despite Lechtenberg's consistence from long range.

Where they feel most comfortable is at a 20 point lead. They were able to manage this midway through the 3rd quarter. These leads give coach Bryan Hunter opportunities to rotate players in and out of the game, and the entire team works together well enough to take away doubts about non-starting players.

As usual, the only lead change happened early on, in favor of The Volcanoes, extending it to 27 points before coming to a close with another Vancouver win of 112 to 130. They like scoring in the triple digits; they've done it every game, and their record now stands at nine and four. They're on the war path to playoffs, and the outcome is looking victorious.
