Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency Add 2007 BC Youth Player of the Year

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency announced today that they have added Canadian youth international Sahil Sandhu to their full-time program. In addition, Sandhu will immediately join the United Soccer Leagues' Premier Development League (PDL) squad.

Sandhu, 17-years-old, has been a member of the Whitecaps organization since 2004 when he led the Whitecaps U-13 team to the club's first-ever USL Super Y-League North American Championship in Orlando, Florida. In fact, Sandhu scored the championship game-winning goal in the Whitecaps 2-0 win over Schulz Academy. The following year, Sandhu competed with the Whitecaps U-14 Super Y-League team. Most recently, he played for the Whitecaps BCSA Prospects team which toured The Netherlands and Germany in March 2008.

The five-foot-ten, 155-pound forward has also been involved in numerous Canadian national team camps and international friendlies at both the U-15 and U-16 levels. At the provincial level, Sandhu represented the U-16 British Columbia All-Stars at the 2007 National All-Star Championships, where he helped the team capture a fourth-place finish. Also in 2007, Sandhu was named the British Columbia Soccer Association's Male Youth Player of the Year.

Sandhu, who was born in Amritsar, India, now calls Surrey, BC, home. The striker attends Princess Margarett Secondary School, and played his youth soccer for Whalley Celtics. In 2007, he guided the Celtics to a provincial championship and fourth-place at the nationals.

In addition, Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that defender Mason Trafford, midfielder Mason Webb, and forward Nick Webb have been re-assigned to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency PDL team.

The three will join the team for two away matches against Yakima Reds today at Marquette Stadium, and Spokane Spiders on Saturday, July 12, at Spokane Falls Community College Arena.

Trafford, who was born in Boynton Beach, Florida, but raised in North Vancouver, BC, is in his first season with Vancouver after spending four years at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The six-foot-two defender has yet to see action with the first team thus far, having just signed with the ‘Caps on June 19.

Mason and Nick Webb, natives of Bellingham, Washington, are also currently in their first seasons with the club after completing their collegiate careers at Oregon State University. Mason has played 23 minutes for Vancouver in two appearances, while Nick has accumulated 40 minutes in four appearances with the USL First Division side. This will mark the Webb brothers' second stint with the Whitecaps PDL side after appearing in the Residency team's 4-0 loss to Tacoma Tide on June 7, 2008.
