Valley Partnership Brings RGV Viper Basketball to Region One Area High School Students

Edinburg, TX - Rio Grande Valley Wal-Mart Stores, in partnership with the Region One Education Service Center and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, will provide tickets to an RGV Vipers home game to 1,500 high school students that live in the seven county area of Region One.

Wal-Mart's contribution will allow students with outstanding academic grades to attend a RGV Vipers game on February 8 or 9. Through this donation, Wal-Mart and its partners hope to provide an added incentive to students to continue excelling in their academic achievement while learning about competition in a fun and family-oriented setting.

"Wal-Mart and its associates understand the importance of education and keeping our young minds motivated," said Wal-Mart Market Manager Al Serrano. "The fast paced game of basketball can provide good lessons to our Valley students in a fun, family-oriented atmosphere, while future NBA superstars practice what they learned."

"We recognize that learning should also take place beyond the classroom. When Wal-Mart approached us with a desire to get these tickets into the hands of Region One students who excelled in their class work, we knew it was tremendous opportunity to provide yet another learning opportunity," explained Region One ESC Executive Director, Jack Damron. "These tickets will be awarded to students who have excelled in the classroom to reinforce that the key to success is hard work and commitment and that learning can also be fun!"
