Valley Legends added to ABA 2005 roster of teams

December 4, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release


Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA co-Founder, today announced that another team has been added in Southern California for 2005, led by former NBA player, Gary Grant and his wife Tammy. According to Newman, "We can say how pleased and proud we are to have the Grants as part of the ABA. Gary's background as a player, coach and businessman is extraordinary; he and Tammy will do very well."

The team will be owned by Taurean Sports Management, LLC and will play in the San Fernando Valley, about 30 minutes from LA and an area that consists of five major cities and 26 communities. The Valley is home to many movie studios and Fortune 500 company.

Gary Grant played professionally in the NBA for 13 years with the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, Miami Heat and Portland Trailblazers. He is second all time in career assists (2810) and steals (747) for the Clippers. He became an assistant coach for the Trailblazers for 2 years in 2001 and 2002, then went into college coaching to become an asst coach for San Diego State University in 2003-2004. Gary was a consensus All America player who played 4 years a the University of Michigan, named defensive player of the year all four seasons and finished at Michigan as the all-time leader in assists (735) and second in scoring (2222). He received his Bachelors degree in Kinesiology.

Grant added, "Being a fan of the ABA and deciding to get involved was an easy decision. It will expand basketball and offer more opportunities to players and coaches and bring professional basketball to more cities. The Valley has been waiting for something like the ABA and it will offer a huge strong fan base, already receiving enormous support and interest. And, I plan to be Head Coach and involve pro basketball minded people into our organization."
