Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Lake Elsinore, CA - Jeudy Valdez's walk-off homer in the bottom of the 11th inning sent the Lake Elsinore Storm to a 4-2 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Friday night at The Diamond in Lake ELsinore.

Quakes' reliever Logan Bawcom, who shined just a night earlier, threw just three pitches in the 11th inning, as Valdez ended the game and put the Storm back in first place all alone, one game ahead of the Quakes.

Rancho reliever Jordan Roberts (4-4) came on the ninth and was sharp for two innings, but made a few costly mistakes in the 11th.

Tied at 2-2, Jake Blackwood bounced one to the third-base side of the mound to lead off the 11th. Roberts fielded it cleanly, but upon transitioning to his throwing hand, dropped the baseball, putting the winning run on first base. Roberts later fired a wild pitch, moving Blackwood to second base. Wandi Olabisi followed with a slow ground ball to shortstop Jake Lemmerman for the first out of the inning. On the play Blackwood moved to third. Roberts battled back to strike out left-handed hitting Reymond Fuentes for the second out of the inning, then was replaced by Bawcom. Bawcom's 1-1 pitch was crushed down the left-field line, Valdez's sixth homer of the year, ending the game.

Quakes' starter Matt Magill was strong over eight innings, allowing just two runs on four hits in the no-decision.

Magill was touched for two early runs in the second, as the Storm took a 2-0 lead.

The Quakes rallied though, as Nick Buss scored on a Lemmerman single in the third, making it 2-1 against Storm starter Andrew Werner.

Rancho evened the game in the seventh against Storm reliever Jeremy McBryde, as Buss doubled and later scored on Anthony Jackson's RBI single, tying the game at 2-2.

The Quakes didn't threaten much offensively, as they were held to just nine hits over 11 innings.

Storm reliever Jason Ray (4-1) earned the win with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Rancho (12-10, 50-42) will return to The Epicenter on Saturday night, opening up a three-game set against the Modesto Nuts. JonMichael Redding (6-4) will go to the mound for the Quakes, while the Nuts will counter with Nick Schnaitmann (3-10). Game time is set for 7:05pm.

Saturday night's game against Modesto will feature post-game Fireworks, thanks to KOLA 99.9 FM. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter...GO Quakes!
