Utah Royals FC News Release
SANDY, Utah - Utah Royals FC FW Amy Rodriguez is among 10 worldwide nominees for the 2019 FIFA Puskás Award, given annually for the goal of the year. An online vote at FIFA.com (here) will determine which of the 10 nominees will advance to the finals, where FIFA Legends will determine the 2019 FIFA Puskás Award winner.
"I am so honored to be considered for this award," Rodriguez said. "It's an indescribable feeling to be considered in the same class as some of the other goal scorers who are at the top of their game, but I am proud nonetheless to represent the NWSL and grateful for the nomination."
Rodriguez is nominated for her stunning goal against Sky Blue FC on June 15, taking the ball from her own half of the field and dribbling all alone before taking a left-footed 35-yard blast that found the net in a 1-0 win for Utah Royals FC.
Rodriguez is one of three women's players nominated for the award and one of two players from an American-based league, joining Zlatan Ibrahimovic with the LA Galaxy in MLS. She is currently tied for second in NWSL with eight goals this season, giving her 32 goals in her illustrious NWSL career. She is in her second season with Utah Royals FC and was named the Utah Royals FC Humanitarian of the Year in 2018.
Voting is open until September 1 at 4 p.m. MT.
