OVERVIEW: The Blaze look to rebound from their first loss in franchise history as they take on the New York Dragons. The Dragons, winners of the last three Eastern Division titles, look to repeat the feat. Last week, the Dragons escaped Chicago with a 51-47 win over one of the ArenaBowl favorites. The Rush had appeared to beat the Dragons when Chicago QB MATT D'ORAZIO scampered in for a two-yard touchdown run, but the play was called back on an illegal block in the back penalty. The Blaze lost a hard-fought battle to the Dallas Desperados in the first AFL game in history in Utah. After trailing 49-41 heading into the fourth quarter, the Blaze came back to cut the lead to 56-53, with a minute to go. The Blaze were not able to force a stop on the final Dallas drive. Both the Blaze and the Dragons enter the meeting looking to get above the .500 mark. The Blaze remain in first place as Los Angeles and Las Vegas are also 1-1.
THE SERIES: This will be the first meeting between the New York Dragons and the Utah Blaze. It will also be the first meeting between head coaches DANNY WHITE and WEYLAN HARDING.
WHAT'S AHEAD: The Blaze enter a pivotal point in their season as they go on the road for two divisional games against the Arizona Rattlers (February 18) and the Los Angeles Avengers (February 25). These next two games could go along way in deciding the Western Division.

NOTABLES: The Blaze roster includes 17 veterans and seven rookies... Burley, who had 117 receptions for 1,542 yards and a league-leading 45 touchdowns, figures to be a threat to re-write the books... The expansion records Burley will be chasing are held by former Detroit Fury OS ROBERT GORDON who tallied 125 receptions for 1,630 yards and 42 touchdowns in 2001.

THE COACHES:
Utah - Danny White, 14th season
122-56 (.685) reg. season; 142-66 (.683) overall
6-4 career vs. New York
White is currently in his 14th season as an AFL head coach and first with the Blaze. White has compiled a record of 142-65 and advanced to the AFL Playoffs in 12 of the previous 13 years (hasn't missed the postseason since 1992). Prior to joining the Blaze, White was the head coach of the Arizona Rattlers for 13 seasons (1992-2004). The AFL Hall of Fame coach has two titles (1994 and 1997) to his credit and has made five ArenaBowl appearances (1994, 97, 2002-04). During his last season in Arizona in 2004, White compiled a 13-6 record and made his third straight ArenaBowl appearance. White, won AFL "Coach of the Year" award in 1993. White officially became the head coach of the Blaze on April 21, 2005. He played for the Dallas Cowboys as the team's quarterback (1976-88) and helped lead the Cowboys to the postseason five times and won three NFC East titles during his tenure as starting QB. In his first year as a starter (1980), White set the club single-season record for touchdown passes (28) and then broke the record (29) in 1983. Those records still stand as the top two single-season marks in franchise history. He still owns eight Cowboy records and is the member of FOUR Halls of Fame (Arizona Sports, Arizona State, College Football and Arena Football).
New York - Weylan Harding, 2nd season
11-7 (.611) reg. season; 11-8 (.579) overall
0-0 career vs. Utah
Harding begins his second season at the helm of the New York Dragons. In his first season as head coach, the Dragons finished with a 10-6 record, giving them the Eastern Divisional title. Harding finished second in the coach of the year honors, after his defensive backs led the AFL with 28 interceptions on the season. Harding began his coaching career in 2000 when he was named defensive backs coach of the Buffalo Destroyers. Harding took DS Prentice Taylor under his wings, and Taylor was awarded with an All-Rookie selection. In 2001 he took control of the defensive backs for the Rochester Brigade of the af2. Harding returned to the AFL and Buffalo in 2002 when he was hired as defensive coordinator of the Destroyers. With Buffalo and Rochester Harding helped bring along DS Dwaine Carpenter who recorded ten interceptions in two seasons in the AFL before joining the NFL in 2003. In 2003 the Destroyers had become the top defensive unit in the AFL. The defense finished second in total defense, fourth in scoring defense, and fourth in interceptions. As a player Harding spent four seasons in the AFL playing for Iowa, Nashville and Portland. Harding's best season came in 1996 when 68 tackles, nine pass breakups, and a blocked kick. During that season the Iowa Barnstormers advanced to the ArenaBowl where they fell just short against the Tampa Bay Storm.
ROSTER MOVES - The Blaze claimed two OL/DLs (ERNEST GRANT and SEAN GUTHRIE) off waivers and waived WR/DB ERIN DAMOND. Coach White also brought in WR/DB JUSTIN TAPLIN and DS DAVIN BUSH on two-day contracts.

NOTES:
WR/LB JUSTIN SKAGGS final game last season came against the New York Dragons. While with Orlando, Skaggs had one of his best defensive games of the season as he racked up 2.5 tackles. He also recorded nine yards on two receptions in the game.
FORMER DRAGON - FB/LB KEVIN CLEMENS will play against some of his former teammates when the New York Dragons come to town this weekend. Clemens as a member of the Dragons last season finished with eight rushes on 19 yards and a touchdown. He also finished with 5.5 tackles while playing in only eight games for the Dragons.
SIAHA RELIEF - OS SIAHA BURLEY had an exceptional game last season against the New York Dragons. Despite a 61-37 loss, Burley recorded 124 receiving yards with a touchdown. He also had 21 kick return yards as well as 26 kick return yards. Burley's lone touchdown came with 7:02 left in the third quarter on a 44 yard pass from Sherdrick Bonner. He is chasing expansion records held by former Detroit Fury OS ROBERT GORDON who tallied 125 receptions for 1,630 yards and 42 touchdowns in 2001.
HUNTER WRANGLES DRAGONS - With the Wranglers fighting to get into the playoff hunt midway through the season, DS KELVIN HUNTER helped pace the defense to a 57-47 victory over the New York Dragons. Hunter finished the game with three tackles. It didn't take long for Hunter to leave his mark on the game as he intercepted an AARON GARCIA pass halfway through the first quarter. Hunter is listed as doubtful for this week's game.
HOW THE WEST IS WON - Up until last season, the Western Division was won by either the DANNY WHITE-led Arizona Rattlers or the San Jose SaberCats. Last season, the Los Angeles Avengers captured their first division title. White's all-time regular season record against the Western Division is 41-19.
WEST IS BEST - The Western Division will be a tough test for the Blaze in 2006. In 2005, the San Jose SaberCats (59.1 points per game, No. 1 in the AFL), Los Angeles Avengers (53.8 PPG, No. 5), Arizona Rattlers (51.0 PPG, No. 10) and Las Vegas Gladiators (49.4 PPG, No. 12) were the leading offensive division in the AFL by combining for an average of 53.3 points per game.

HEY COACH! Blaze head coach DANNY WHITE is currently in four Halls of Fame (Arizona Sports, Arizona State University, College Football and Arena Football). He has 13 years of experience in the AFL and owns two ArenaBowl titles (1994 and 1997), while not having a losing season since 1992. But, did you know that the assistant coaching staff has a combined total of 33 years of Arena Football experience?
Offensive/Defensive Line coach, FLINT FLEMING, played in six ArenaBowls and has three titles (1990, 1992 and 1997) during his 16 years in Arena Football. He was also named to the AFL's 15th Anniversary Team. Offensive coordinator and future AFL Hall of Famer, HUNKIE COOPER, is the AFL's all-time all-purpose yards leader (20,587), two-time Ironman of the Year (1999-2000) and AFL MVP (1993) during his 13 years in the AFL. Assistant Offensive/Defensive Line coach, LINDSAY HASSELL, played four years with the Oklahoma Wranglers (2000-01) and Arizona Rattlers (2002-03).
Despite being in his first season of coaching Arena Football, assistant head coach/defensive coordinator, LEE LESLIE, brings 21 years of coaching experience, including 14 championship titles and a year of coaching in the NIFL (Utah Warriors).
IT'S A NUMBERS GAME - What's the big deal about a number? If you ask Utah Blaze head coach/general manager DANNY WHITE, it means a lot. One of the interesting stories early in the Blaze's inaugural season involves rookie OL/DL GARRETT SMITH. Smith is not only trying to make and immediate impact, but also trying to "earn" his number.
Smith wants to wear Coach White's old number (11), but will be wearing No. 12 against New York.
"Coach (White) made it clear that choosing a uniform number is not a right, it's a privilege," Smith said. "It will be something that I have to earn and I don't plan on letting him down. I intended on earning it at some point this season."
CLIMBING THE CHARTS - Head coach DANNY WHITE picks up where he left off after a year absence from the AFL coaching ranks. The AFL Hall of Fame coach is currently No. 2 on the league's all-time coaches win list. Below is a list of the all-time winningest coaches in AFL history.
