SAN DIEGO -July 9, 2016- Renada Davis poked an 0-2 pitch into right field in the the top of the 9th and came in to score later in the inning on a foul out to spark the Dallas Charge to a 3-1 extra inning victory.
Dallas is now 9-15 on the season, while USSSA drops to 17-5. The Pride remain atop the NPF standings with a 4.5 game cushion over Scrap Yard (14-11).
Starting pitcher Morgan Melloh picked up the victory on the mound a day after earning the save. She pitched a complete game allowing seven hits, three walks and just one run while striking out seven.
USSSA's Keilani Ricketts nearly matched her pitch for pitch. She allowed three hits and three runs (one earned) with no walks and eight strike outs over eight innings pitched. The only blemish on her record before the ninth was a solo home run to Kylee Lahners.
In the ninth, Ricketts got the groundball she was looking for to lead off the inning from speedster Taylor Gadbois, but Ricketts rushed the throw as Gadbois reached second base. Davis fell behind in the count but got a good pitch out over the plate and lined it to right. The right fielder was caught in-between and the ball ended up hitting grass then the fielder and kicking past her allowing Davis to speed around to third. She would add an insurance run on a foul out to the right fielder later in the inning.
The Pride came back to tie the game and force extra innings with a run in the 6th on a one-out single by Hallie Wilson. USSSA outhit Dallas 7-3 in the loss. Both Sierra Romero and Shelby Pendley reached multi-hit games.
