August 4, 2004 - USL First Division (USL-1) News Release

Whitecaps @ Montreal

This Friday's live USL on Fox Sports World A-League match takes place at Claude Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal, Quebec as the Vancouver Whitecaps take on the Montreal Impact. Kickoff is set for 8:00pm ET.

This is a classic East vs. West battle as the top teams in each conference face off!

Vancouver Whitecaps (12-5-3)

The Whitecaps make their second straight appearance on the Fox Sports World game of the week after seeing a 1-0 lead disappear in the 90th minute during last weeks 1-1 tie against the Calgary Mustangs.

The Whitecaps, tied for first in the Western Conference with the Portland Timbers, are led in scoring by forward Davide Xausa with six goals and one assist for 13 points. Jason Jordan and Oliver Heald aren't far behind as they have both recorded four goals and two assists for 10 points. Goalkeeper Alex Marques is third in the league with a 0.709 goals against average.

Montreal Impact (13-4-4)

The Impact sit atop the Eastern Conference standings with 43 points. Montreal has won three straight contests after back-to-back losses to the Syracuse Salty Dogs.

Montreal is led by forward Fred Commodore with seven goals and one assist for 15 points. Right on his heels is Eduardo Sebrango with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Greg Sutton has been named to the A-League Team of the Week three times this season and was the Player of the Week in week 3 for recording two of his league leading 13 shutouts.

History

This will be the second and final meeting between these two teams this season. The Impact took the first meeting 3-0 back on June 11th when Joel Bailey scored a goal on either side of halftime to seal the victory.
