USL Discipline Report: Week 11
June 8, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - The following is the USL's discipline report for Week 11 of the 2016 season:
Six players have been suspended and fined an undisclosed amount for their actions this past week.
Louisville City FC's Ben Newnam has been issued a three-game suspension and fined for punching a player during City's road victory against Orlando City B on Sunday. Though not sent off during the match, the USL Disciplinary Committee ruled for a multiple-match suspension when it was evident that Newnam struck OCB's Harrison Heath from behind. Newnam will miss Louisville's games on Saturday (vs. Wilmington Hammerheads FC), July 18 (at the Rochester Rhinos) and July 21 (vs. Toronto FC II).
Louisville's George Davis IV also will be suspended for one match when he received two cautions and was sent off against Orlando. Davis is out for the match against Wilmington this weekend.
Among other suspensions, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds' Sergio Campbell and Seattle Sounders FC 2's Jordan Schweitzer were sent off during their respective Week 11 games and are suspended for one match apiece this week. Schweitzer is out for Thursday's home match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 and Campbell will miss the Hounds' road match against the Richmond Kickers on Saturday.
Sacramento Republic FC's Daniel Trickett-Smith and Vancouver's Sam Adekugbe were issued two cautions and subsequently sent off during their matches and suspended for one game each. Trickett-Smith will be absent from Wednesday's home match against Real Monarchs SLC on the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3. Adekugbe is out for Thursday's game against Seattle.
Ten players have been issued four yellow cards this season and are one away from being fined and suspended for accumulation: the Charleston Battery's Justin Portillo, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC's Miguel Gonzalez, FC Montreal's Louis Beland-Goyette, Orlando City B's Tyler Turner, Rio Grande Valley FC's Jorginho James, the Rochester Rhinos' Vasileios Apostolopoulos, Sacramento Republic FC's Derek Foran, Saint Louis FC's James Musa, Toronto FC II's Mitchell Taintor and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2's Will Seymore.
