OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sioux City

Da Costa had a six-point week as Sioux City stayed in third place in the West. He had a goal and an assist in each of Sioux City s games, an 8-0 win over Tri-City, a 4-3 loss to Tri-City and a 5-4 overtime loss to Sioux Falls. He had 10 SOG and was a +4.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Waterloo

Kessel had five points as Waterloo remained hot. He went scoreless in a 3- 0 win over Sioux Falls Friday. On Saturday, he had a goal and two assists in a 3-1 win over Indiana and then added two assists in a 7-3 win over Sioux Falls Sunday. He was +4.

Water loo

Howe had a big weekend as Waterloo stayed in the hunt for a division title. He made 26 saves in a 3-0 shutout of Sioux Falls on Friday and followed that with 26 more saves in a 3-1 win over Indiana on Saturday. His GAA was 0.50 and his SV% was .981.

USHL I NSI DER

Andy Returns To Omaha: The Omaha Lancers have claimed the Anderson Cup as regular season champions in the USHL for the fifth time. They did it by way of a 3-2 win at Cedar Rapids on Saturday. The team and its fans will be formally presented with the trophy following their game Saturday at home against Des Moines.

Eight I s Enough: Friday s 6-1 win over Ohio gave Chicago just what they needed to gain the eighth and final berth in the Clark Cup Playoffs, which will get underway the week of April 7.

Reekie Rules: Lincoln s David Reekie picked up his league-leading sixth shutout of the season, making 23 saves in a 2-0 win over Green Bay on Friday.

Visitors Welcome: Cedar Rapids has been gracious to teams trying to clinch the Anderson Cup. With Omaha s win there on Saturday, it marked the second straight year that the Anderson Cup was clinched in Cedar Rapids by the visiting team.

Black Haw ks Soar ing: Five weeks ago Waterloo was in third place in the East Division and trailing Indiana by 16 points. Since then they ve gone 11-2-0, clinched at least a tie for second place in the division and pulled to within three points of division-leading Indiana.

Super Sw ede: Simon Olsson has enjoyed the month of March, scoring seven goals and racking up 16 points in just eight games. The surge also helped him jump to third on the Steel in scoring.

Bonus Point : Sioux City may have dropped a 5-4 decision in overtime to Sioux Falls on Saturday, but the extra point helped them break the tie and pull one point ahead of Lincoln in the West Division standings.

Gordon Dr ive Blow out : Tom Olczyk and Joe Miller each scored a pair of goals and Josh Robinson made 27 saves as Sioux City whipped Tri-City 8- 0 on Thursday.

I ce Cold: Indiana s magic number to clinch the East Division title is still at four, as the ice have slumped of late, going 2-7-1 in their last 10.

PRO ALUMNI NEWS

Br ian Lee (Lincoln) was called up by the Ottawa Senators last week and made his NHL debut against Buffalo on March 25, playing 18:02. He has no points and two penalty minutes in three NHL games so far.

Dan Ellis (Omaha) has set Nashville s franchise shutout streak. The streak was broken when Detroit got one past him in overtime on Sunday, ending his streak at 233:39. It is the longest shutout streak in the NHL this season. Ellis was named the NHL s Second Star of the Week.

Tom Gilber t (Chicago) broke Edmonton s record for points in a season by a rookie defenseman when he scored a goal and added an assist in a 5-4 shootout loss to Colorado on Friday. Gilbert now has 13 goals and 33 points this season. He broke the previous record of 32 points that was set in 1980-81 by Paul Coffey.

Tim Conboy (Topeka) has been named the Albany River Rats Man of the Year for 2007-08. His selection, based on the many hours of community service that he provided during the season in the Albany area, also makes him a finalist for the AHL s Yanick Dupre Award, which goes to the AHL Man of the Year.

John Mur ray (Sioux Falls) was named ECHL Goaltender of the Week last week after going 2-0 with a 0.50 goals against average, a .985 save percentage and one shutout. Murray was signed by the Reading Royals on March 17. Runners-up for the award were Kellen Br iggs (Sioux Falls) and Bobby Goepfer t (Cedar Rapids).

Paul Stastny (Omaha) is a lock to finish the season as Colorado s leading scorer, holding a 12-point lead with just three games to go.

COLLEGE ALUMNI NEWS

A total of 178 former USHL players appeared on the rosters of the 16 teams that started in the NCAA tournament. With the regionals now complete, 45 of those players will advance to the NCAA Frozen Four in Denver April 10-12.

Just in Mercier (St. Louis) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help Miami defeat Air Force 3-2 on Saturday and advance to the Northeast Regional Championship game. Miami also got goals in the game from freshmen Tommy Wingels (Cedar Rapids) and Car ter Camper (Lincoln).

Chr ist ian Hanson (Tri-City) scored three goals and added an assist in two games this weekend. He had two goals in a 7-3 win over New Hampshire and then had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Michigan State, giving #4 seed Notre Dame the championship of the West Regional and advancing them to the first Frozen Four in school history.

Philippe Lamoureux (Lincoln) made 41 saves, a season-high, as the Fighting Sioux beat regional host and underdog Wisconsin 3-2 in overtime on Sunday night, punching their ticket to the Frozen Four.

Billy Sauer (Chicago) made 27 saves in the East Regional title game, giving Michigan a 2-0 win over Clarkson and advancing them to the Frozen Four.

Nick Pet recki (Omaha) scored the first goal of the game, his fifth of the season, in Boston College s 4-3 overtime win over Miami on Sunday. The win sends the Eagles to the Frozen Four for the eighth time in the last 11 years.

Mike Davies (Lincoln) scored twice and added an assist as Wisconsin, a controversial pick for the NCAA tournament due to their sub-.500 record, upset Denver 6-2 in the Midwest Regional semifinal.
