USHL Ties Aplenty on 2022 U.S. National Junior Team Preliminary Roster

USA Hockey announced Tuesday the preliminary roster for the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team that includes 30 current or former USHL players among the 31 total players invited to the camp. The final 25-man roster will represent the United States at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship in Red Deer, Alberta from December 26, 2021 to January 5, 2022.

Among the 30 players with USHL ties, a trio are currently playing in the USHL including Lincoln Stars goaltender Kaidan Mbereko, United States National Team Development Program (NTDP) goaltender Dylan Silverstein and NTDP forward Logan Cooley. All three players are eligible for the 2022 NHL Draft.

Notes:

30 of the 31 players invited to U.S. Camp have played, or are currently playing, in the USHL.

Of the 30 USHL ties, three are eligible for the 2022 NHL Draft while 26 have already been Drafted by NHL teams.

The three current USHL players are all committed to NCAA Division I schools including Logan Cooley (University of Notre Dame), Kaidan Mbereko (Colorado College) and Dylan Silverstein (Boston College).

The roster features six First Round Draft picks including Matthew Beniers (Seattle Kraken, 2021, #2), Luke Huges (New Jersey Devils, 2021, #4), Jake Sanderson (Ottawa Senators, 2020, #5), Matthew Coronato (Calgary Flames, 2021, #13), Chaz Lucius (Winnipeg Jets, 2021, #18), Mackie Samoskevich (Florida Panthers, 2021, #24).

Of the 30 USHL ties, 24 are currently playing NCAA Division I hockey including a high of five players at University of Michigan followed by three players at both University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Duluth as well as two players each at Boston University, Denver University, Harvard University and University of North Dakota. Each of the following schools have one player each: Miami University, Providence College, Quinnipiac University, University of Massachusetts and University of Notre Dame.
