USHL Lands 39 on 2022 World Junior Classic Rosters

EDMONTON, Alberta - The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Tuesday a total of 45 ties, highlighted by 39 players, across seven rosters at the 2022 World Junior Championship set to be played from August 5-20 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The United States roster leads the way with 24 players and six staff members. The players including ties to eight Member Clubs and include 20 Draft picks as well as 2023 NHL Draft prospect Charlie Stramel (USA Hockey National Team Development Program, 2020-22). First Round selections include Logan Cooley (USA Hockey NTDP, 2020-22), Luke Hughes (USA Hockey NTDP, 2019-21), Matthew Coronato (Chicago Steel, 2019-21) and Mackie Samoskevich (Chicago Steel, 2018-21). The United States roster also includes 18 current NCAA Division I players, four players who appeared in USHL games during the 2021-22 season and one who made his NHL debut last season.

Between the pipes for the United States, the USHL will be represented by Remington Keopple (Des Moines Buccaneers, 2020-22) and Kaidan Mbereko (Lincoln Stars, 2021-22; USA Hockey NTDP, 2019-21). Joining Hughes on the blueline will be fellow USA Hockey NTDP ties Sean Behrens (2019-21), Brock Faber (2018-20), Tyler Kleven (2018-20) and Jacob Truscott (2018-20). Other Member Clubs will be represented with fellow defensemen Wyatt Kaiser (Dubuque Fighting Saints, 2019-20), Ian Moore (Chicago Steel, 2020-21) and Jack Peart (Fargo Force, 2019-21). USA's forward group will include, among Stramel, Cooley, Coronato, Nazar and Samoskevich, Brett Berard (USA Hockey NTDP, 2018-20), Thomas Bordeleau (USA Hockey NTDP, 2018-20), Riley Duran (Youngstown Phantoms, 2020-21 & 2018-19), Dominic James (Lincoln Stars (2018-21), Matthew Knies (Tri-City Storm, 2018-21), Carter Mazur (Tri-City Storm, 2018-21; USA Hockey NTDP, 2018-19), Hunter McKown (USA Hockey NTDP, 2018-20), Sasha Pastujov (USA Hockey NTDP, 2019-21), Redmond Savage (USA Hockey NTDP, 2019-21) and Landon Slaggert (USA Hockey NTDP, 2018-20).

John Vanbiesbrouck headlines the United States staff, serving as General Manager. The former NHL goaltender currently serves as the USA Hockey NTDP General Manager and was formerly the General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations for the Muskegon Lumberjacks (2013-18). All three of USA's Assistant Coaches formerly played in the USHL, including Steve Miller (Madison Capitols, 1984-85), Kris Mayotte (Sioux City Musketeers, 2001-02) and Grant Potulny (Lincoln Stars, 1998-00). The USHL ties among staff members is rounded out by Jason Hodges, who will serve as Athletic Trainer at the event and is currently the USA Hockey NTDP Athletic Trainer.

Behind the United States, Latvia's World Juniors roster features the most USHL ties including goaltender Bruno Bruveris (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 2021-22), defensemen Ralfs Bergmanis (Sioux City Musketeers, 2021-22) and Gustavs Ozolins (Sioux Falls Stampede, 2021-22) as well as forwards Felikss Gavars (Fargo Force, 2021-22), Martins Lavins (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 2021-22), Peteris Purmalis (Sioux City Musketeers, 2021-22) and Raimonds Vitolins (Sioux Falls Stampede, 2019-20).

Slovakia will roster a trio of USHL ties including goaltender Simon Latkoczy (Madison Capitols, 2021-22 & 2019-20; Chicago Steel, 2020-21), defenseman Simon Becar (Chicago Steel, 2021-22) and forward Lubomir Kupco (Des Moines Buccaneers, 2021-22).

The USHL will also be represented on the rosters of Austria, Czechia, Finland, Latvia, Slovakia and Switzerland. Goaltender Sebastian Wraneschitz (Tri-City Storm, 2021-22) will be rostered for Austria while forward Tomas Urban (Lincoln Stars, 2020-21) and goaltender Kevin Pasche (Omaha Lancers, 2021-22) will represent Czechia and Switzerland, respectively. Finland will have a pair of USHL ties as defenseman Ruben Rafkin (Tri-City Storm, 2018-19) and forward Joel Maatta (Sioux City Musketeers, 2019-21) will both appear for the team.
