MILFORD, CT â The United States Basketball League, Inc. (USBL) wishes to congratulate two former alumni, as they are now NBA champions. Darvin Ham and Mike James were key components for the Detroit Pistons as they upset the Los Angeles Lakers last night to capture the NBA championship. Ham was a member of the 1996 Florida Sharks team that won the USBL championship under the direction of Eric Musselman. Mike James was a member of the 1999 Long Island Surf. Tremaine Fowlkes, a member of the 1999 Brooklyn Kings, was also a member of the Detroit Pistons this season; but failed to make the playoff roster.
"To win a NBA championship is what every basketball player strives for, and these players have reached their goal. Darvin and Mike were excellent players in the USBL and it is no surprise that they have been able to win a championship in the NBA. On behalf of everyone in the USBL, our congratulations on a job well done," stated USBL Founder and Commissioner Daniel T. Meisenheimer III.
