MILFORD, CT - (April 3, 2007) Former United States Basketball League (USBL) rookie, Billy Donovan, is the first basketball coach to lead his team to back-to-back NCAA Championships in fifteen years after guiding the Florida Gators to a 84-75 win over Ohio State last night in Atlanta.

Donovan joined the Staten Island Stallions only weeks after playing in the 1987 NCAA Championship Game with Rick Pitino's Providence Friars. As a rookie, Donovan was selected to the USBL All-Star team before going on to play a brief career in the NBA.

Donovan began his coaching career by rejoining Rick Pitino as an assistant at the University of Kentucky. Billy left Kentucky to become the Head Coach at Marshall in 1994. After two successful seasons with the Thundering Herd, Donovan took over Florida's basketball program in 1996.

After nine seasons with Florida, Donovan has now won two NCAA Championships and several other tournament appearances. He remains one of the most sought after coaches in the sport as well as inspiration to the next generation of USBL players.
