USBL all-time records in jeopardy

May 20, 2004 - United States Basketball League (USBL) News Release

MILFORD, CT – The United States Basketball League, inc. (USBL) has just reached the midpoint of its 19th season of play. This season has seen the outstanding individual displays of Jimmy "Snap" Hunter, Justin Love and James Penny to name but a few. Nate Johnson and Tony Bland have both made their mark on the USBL already this season as rookies, and head coach Dave Joerger has shown that no matter were he coaches he just continues to win. Along with the great individual play this season, there are several players that are closing in on USBL records or are making their way up the Top 10 All-Time list in several categories.

USBL All-Time leading scorer Kwan Johnson has continued to distance himself from the field in a number of categories. He is currently first in games played (162), points (3347), steals (302), field goal attempts (2663), free throws made (872) and attempted (1239), and three pointers attempted (746). Johnson is also second in field goals made (1121) and three pointers made (233) and eighth in assists (540). He also needs 27 rebounds to move into the top ten all-time.

Joining Johnson in the record books is "Mr. Double Double" Johnny Jackson. Jackson holds the USBL double double record with 71 and counting. Jackson needs only 41 rebounds; he currently has 1139 rebounds, to pass Andre Perry as the USBL All-Time leader in rebounds. Jackson also has 125 career-blocked shots and needs only 17 to move into the top ten all-time.

Alvin Jefferson has moved into eighth place in career blocks with 157 and need 21 to move into seventh place all-time. Tim Winn is currently ninth in steals with 183 and could possibly move into the top five by the end of the season. Kareem Reid is fifth in assists (572) and at the current rate could move into the top three by seasons end.

A list is never complete unless the exploits of "Chocolate Thunder" Darryl Dawkins are mentioned. Dawkins became only the third head coach in USBL history to break the century mark in wins earlier this season. Dawkins currently has 108 wins, behind only Kevin Mackey (128) and Rex Morgan (196).

"These are some very impressive numbers that these players have compiled over their careers," stated USBL Founder and Commissioner Daniel T. Meisenheimer III. "This is a group of players that have and will continue to leave their mark on the USBL for years to come."
