Charlotte Hounds News Release

The leaders of professional sports teams too often forget that that the teams they own belong first and foremost to the fans. We, Charlotte ‚¬â„¢s Major League Lacrosse team, will not be one of those teams that lose touch with our fans.

We want our fans involved with the team from the very beginning.

We believe sports teams succeed because a community of passionate fans wants to be engaged on an emotional level with the team. We hope to foster that type of active engagement with our fans from the outset by involving them in our ‚¬Å“Name The Team Campaign ‚¬Â powered by OrthoCarolina. This campaign is designed to choose our team ‚¬â„¢s name in a democratic fashion. It will be only the 4th professional franchise ever named through fan a democratic fan vote and input.

Here ‚¬â„¢s how the ‚¬Å“Name The Team Campaign ‚¬Â will work:

1.We have fan discussion and voting to define our geographic agenda ‚¬" who does the team represent' Who is our primary audience: Charlotte' Or the broader Carolinas'

2.We will interact with our fans to explore the brand ‚¬â„¢s emotive characteristics ‚¬" what are the team ‚¬â„¢s attitudes, aspirations and identity. Are we more identified with Charlotte ‚¬â„¢s past, present or future' What is our look and feel' Edgy' Energetic' Vibrant'

3.Based on feedback and voting in phases 1 & 2, we will present 8-10 names and logo concepts for additional fan commentary and voting.

4.Based on feedback and voting from phase 3, we will revise the top 3-4 vote-getting concepts and represent them to the group for additional fan voting and commentary.

5.The Final Team Name, Logo and Colors will be presented in an unveiling ceremony streamed online.

There are a few ground rules though! First, understand that naming a team is a complex process that involves a lot of moving parts. As you can see from the process outlined above, it is not as simple as throwing a favorite name out there and voting. In addition to the fan vote and discussion phases, there will be internal phases that look at things like legal/trademark restrictions (i.e. we won ‚¬â„¢t be the Hornets because the NBA owns the rights to that name) and that make sure we don ‚¬â„¢t infringe upon a local institution ‚¬â„¢s name (out of deference to local Universities, Colleges and High Schools ‚¬" we will not use a name associated with one of their teams).

A special THANKS to OrthoCarolina for partnering with us on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We are excited to get the process moving and see where it takes us. Please join us momentarily and vote along with your friends.

Thanks!
