Calgary United News Release

Calgary United followed up a hard fought 4-2 victory over the Saskatoon Accelerators on Saturday night with a well played 9-4 win on Sunday afternoon. Calgary moves to 4 wins and 3 losses going into the Christmas break, and Saskatoon begins the year 0-2 ahead of their next game against Colorado on December 20th.

Backup goalkeeper Spencer Arnold got the start for Calgary on Sunday, and looked sharp early as Saskatoon used a high work rate to create chances against a United side that looked sluggish at the opening whistle. Arnold made three important saves, and Saskatoon was unlucky to be down 2-0 on goals by Kyle Yamada and Felix Napuri before seven minutes had elapsed. But the hardworking Accelerators were rewarded before the period was up with goals by Jordan Schidlowsky and John Liston.

Calgary regained the two goal advantage in the second quarter on goals by Mark Slade and Yamada's second of the day, and blew the game open in the second half with two more from both Slade and Napuri and a single from Chris Kooy. Ryan McAllister and Jerson Hamilton scored the other goals for Saskatoon .

After a disappointing road trip to St. Louis and Texas that resulted in two losses for United, Calgary head coach Dave Randall was pleased with the way his club played over the weekend.

"Saturday was much improved." Randall said. "And on Sunday we had a good all around effort with no big mental errors. In fact, it was probably our most complete performance all year."

Chris Kooy's strong performance in the midfield earned him man of the match for Calgary over hat trick afternoons for both Slade and Napuri, and Jerson Hamilton got the nod for Saskatoon. Calgary's next game is January 3rd at Stockton.
