United Bowl II in Sight

Omaha, NE - United Indoor Football is please to announce that the UIF 2006 Playoffs is set and will start this coming Saturday! Six teams made the post season with four teams having to stay home and wait again until next season for their chance at United Bowl glory. This year will feature the Sioux Falls Storm (15-0) as the number 1 seed and the Lexington Horsemen (13-2) at number 2. The Rock River Raptors (11-4) take the third spot. The Storm, Horsemen and Raptors all won their respective division to take the top three spots in this years playoffs. Taking the final three positions are the #4 Omaha Beef (8-7), #5 Evansville BlueCats (7-8) and the #6 Sioux City Bandits (6-9).

Starting on Saturday, July 15, 2006, the playoffs will begin with the Evansville BlueCats traveling to Omaha to meet the Beef at the Omaha Civic Auditorium, the "Slaughter House." Game time starts at 7:05 pm CST and is the third time the two teams will meet this season. The Beef took the first game by tying the UIF record for most points in a game with a 75 - 34 victory. The second game came when the BlueCats returned the favor at Roberts Stadium, the "Fish Bowl," with a 28 - 17 win to split the head-to-head series one to one.

Also Saturday night starting at 7:30 pm CST will be the Sioux City Bandits taking on the Rock River Raptors in Rockford, IL at the MetroCentre, the "Rock Pile." This will be the first time that Head Coach Rik Richards has had to match wits with Bandits Head Coach, Jose Jefferson. The Bandits got some help from the Raptors to get into the playoffs. Sioux City needed to win against Peoria (0-15) and also needed both the Bloomington Extreme (5-10) and the Ohio Valley Greyhounds (6-9) to lose. The Bandits did their part and beat the Rough Riders by a score of 54 - 22. The Raptors held off a late fourth quarter drive from Matt Kohn and his Hounds. Rock River won the game with a 55 - 48 score.

The Sioux Falls Storm and Lexington Horsemen both received first round byes and won't play until the following weekend. The lowest remaining seed remaining from round one will travel to Sioux Falls and the highest remaining seed heads to Lexington. If the Raptors win they will travel to Kentucky and the winner of the Beef vs. BlueCats game will go to Sioux Falls. If the Bandits win they then make the short trip north to Sioux Falls and the winner of the other game heads to Lexington.

The Lexington semi-final game is slated for a 7:30 pm EST kick-off on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at Rupp Arena. The Storm will host their game the following day on Sunday, July 23 with a 3:05 pm CST kick-off at the Sioux Falls Arena, the "Storm Shelter." Sioux Falls clinched home field for the entire playoff picture. United Bowl II is scheduled for July 29 at the home of the highest remaining seed left of the last two UIF teams.
