LEXINGTON HORSEMEN 59, at BLOOMINGTON EXTREME 51 - The Lexington Horsemen (13-2) held off a 2nd half push from the Bloomington Extreme (5-10) to complete their successful season. The Horsemen's J.T. Haskins sparked a 2nd quarter jump ahead of the Extreme by returning a 53 yard kick-off that helped push Lexington to a 35 - 16 lead at halftime. The second half proved to be new life for Bloomington with the defense provided by Winston Taylor (6 solo tackles) and James Cooper (7 solo tackles). The Extreme's Dusty Burk would throw in 2 passes and a solo run to keep the Extreme close with a 3rd quarter finish of Lexington 45, Bloomington 37. The 4th quarter play would become a balance of scoring by each team, both providing 14 points on the board. The Bloomington offense was led by the play of Dusty Burk with 14 completions and 119 yards to complete the evening. Sam D'Alie (81 yards) and Reggie Gray (70 yards) helped Burk's performance rating by hauling in 5 catches each for a total of 151 yards on the day. Lexington's Shawn Johnson matched this performance with 19 of 24 completions for a total of 199 yards. Johnson's support was provided by Harry Lewis (87 yards) and John Cooper (84 yards) both hauling in 7 catches each for a total of 171 yards. Bloomington concluded their season, while Lexington will go into a 1st round bye next week to start the UIF playoffs. The Horsemen will host a semi-final game on July 22 at 7:30 pm EST against the highest seed remaining from the first round.
In SIOUX FALLS STORM 33, EVANSIVILLE BLUECATS 26 - The Storm squeaked by a tough Evansville BlueCats defense and remained perfect for the season with a 15-0 record. The Bluecats (7-8) led to finish the 1st quarter with a 10-7 margin. But the Storm offense proved to be just enough to hold Evansville off the remainder of the competition. The difference of 4 points in the second quarter and 6 points in the 4th quarter gave the Storm the edge needed to finish their perfect season. The Sioux Falls offense was led once again by the rushing ability of Marques Smith who completed the evening with 20 rushes for a total of 81 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ken Horton also provided the Storm with a much needed spark by hauling 6 catches for 40 yards. Austin Flyger gave Sioux Falls the defensive attack needed with 2 sacks for 13 yards and 3 solo tackles. The Bluecats were led by the receiving ability of Levander Segars by pulling in 7 catches for 84 yards and 1 touchdown. Evansville's Vernon Turner gave the BlueCats the push on defense with 7 solo tackles, 1 fumble recovery for 15 yards and an interception for 9 yards. Evansville will start off the UIF playoffs next week against the Omaha Beef in Omaha NE, with a 7:05 pm CST start on July 15th. Sioux Falls moves into the UIF playoffs with a first round bye, playing their first playoff game on July 23rd at 3:05 pm CST in the in Sioux Falls Arena. The Storm will play the lowest remaining seed left from the first round of the post season at "the Storm Shelter."
In OMAHA BEEF 52, FORT WAYNE FREEDOM 13 - The Omaha Beef used their defensive dominance in the second half to give them the edge needed to maintain the 4th seed position going into the UIF Playoffs slated to begin next week July 15th, 2006. The Beef (8-7) used a well rounded offensive attack during the 2nd quarter to push ahead of the Freedom (4-11). A pass of 16 yards for a touchdown from Andy Majors to Jason Mitchell started off the scoring outburst. R.J. Rollins provided his support with a 1 yard touchdown and Ted Retzlaff sailed a field goal through the uprights to give Omaha an 18 point advantage going into halftime. Fort Wayne's Bill Skelton did what he could to keep the Freedom close with a 2 yard touchdown run early in the 1st quarter, and a pass of 14 yards to Johnelle Wyatt for a touchdown near the end of the half. The remainder of the competition would belong to the defensive dominance of the Omaha Beef by holding the Fort Wayne Freedom scoreless in the second half. R.J. Rollins gave the Beef a strong showing with 62 net yards and 3 touchdowns. Andy Majors gave the Beef the needed guidance with 11-16 completions and 3 touchdowns for 114 yards passing. The Freedom offense was led by Skelton with 11-25 completions for 102 yards and 1 touchdown. The dominance of the Beef defense was led by Leif Murphy with 3 solo tackles, and 2 sacks for a total loss of 14 yards. The well rounded Beef defense completed the evening holding the Freedom to only 2 touchdowns and one blocked extra point conversion. The Fort Wayne Freedom concludes their season at 4-11. The Omaha Beef (8-7) will host quarter-final action at the Omaha Civic Auditorium (the Slaughter House) against the Evansville BlueCats (7-8) in the first round of the 2006 UIF Playoffs to start July 15th, 2006 at 7:05 pm CST.
In ROCK RIVER RAPTORS 55, OHIO VALLEY GREYHOUNDS 48 - With much on the line, this game started out proving to be a shootout, with the Greyhounds in a must win situation. Ohio Valley (6-9) came into this contest needing a win to give them the last seed in the UIF 2006 Playoffs. Rock River (11-4) would look to use this game to fine tune their playoff push. The Raptors jumped out to a second quarter lead 42-26. The second half would prove to be a defensive stale-mate with Randy Bell rushing for the only touchdown with 3 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. The Greyhounds Matt Kohn would not allow them to go down without a fight in the 4th quarter. Kohn would hit Willie Austin and Zach Bruney for 3 touchdowns. The 22 point Ohio Valley 2nd half push would come up just short to complete the contest with a Raptors win over Ohio Valley, 55 - 48. Ben Sankey (QB) provided the Raptors with solid a outing, putting up 115 all purpose yards and 4 touchdowns. Ohio Valley's Matt Kohn led the night with a strong performance putting up 236 yards passing and 6 touchdowns. The Ohio Valley Greyhounds would conclude their season at 6 - 9 with this loss to the Rock River Raptors. The Rock River Raptors will start their post-season playoff push next week at home against the Sioux City Bandits (6-9) scheduled to start at 7:30 pm CST., July 15th in the MetroCentre, "the Rock Pile."
In SIOUX CITY BANDITS 54, PEORIA ROUGH RIDERS 22 - In a must win situation over Peoria (0-15), the Bandits (6-9) would squeeze their way through a tiebreaker playoff birth. Sioux City made a statement early on with 5 touchdowns in the first half. The rushing attack of LeAndre Moore, Warren Holloway and John Paulsen in the 2nd quarter pushed the Bandits to a 34-10 lead to finish the first half of play. Sioux City would continue to hold off the Rough Riders by putting up an additional 20 points in the second half. Peoria's 2nd half push by Andrew Porter's 2 touchdown passes would complete this competition with the last touchdown to come late in the 4th quarter. Sioux City's well rounded offense would be led by Antoine Taylor (QB) with 114 yards and 3 touchdown passes. DeAndre Phillips would provide the Bandits with 2 rushing touchdowns and 29 yards rushing. The Peoria Rough Riders were lead by Andrew Porter's 88 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. Peoria completed their season with a 0-15 record. A win over the Roughriders gave the Bandits the go ahead edge to start the playoffs next as they edged out the Ohio Valley Greyhounds with a 1-0 head-to-head tie breaker for the sixth and final spot in the 2006 UIF post season. The Bandits will now travel to Rockford, IL next week to take on the Raptors (11-4) at the MetroCentre (the Rock Pile) with a 7:30 pm CST kick-off on July 15.
