UnderArmour to Supply Performance Gear for MLS
Published on October 18, 2002 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
PROVIDENCE (Friday, October 18, 2002) - Major League Soccer announced today that UnderArmour, the Baltimore-based company that makes specialized athletic clothing, has signed on as the latest to join Major League Soccer's list of "Official Suppliers." UnderArmour makes clothes with a special microfiber designed to keep athletes from sweating during a workout or game.
"Major League Soccer welcomes UnderArmour and its products to our corporate family," said Stu Crystal, Vice President - Marketing and Consumer Products. "MLS players and teams are sure to appreciate the performance attributes of UnderArmour gear."
The multi-year partnership enables UnderArmour to supply Major League Soccer players and teams with its innovative products, as it currently does with Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, USA Baseball, the U.S. Ski Team and 30 National Football League teams.
The Under Armour Fabric(tm) is designed to pull perspiration from the body to the outside of the shirt where the moisture runs off or evaporates. It maintains your core temperature in winter, keeps your body dry and light in the summer, and works with you to eliminate the climate variable.
Under Armour(r) has engineered six gears to cover every climate, season, and playing condition. Put simply, wear HeatGear(tm) when it's hot, ColdGear(tm) when it's cold, and AllSeasonGear(tm) in between. For alternatives to HeatGear,(tm) there's TurfGear(tm) which combines the moisture transport of HeatGear(tm) with long-sleeve protection against artificial surfaces, and LooseGear(tm), which was designed for those workouts when you desire a more relaxed fit. After the game, and between practices, there's StreetGear(tm), the casual wear for the serious athlete.
"This relationship with Major League Soccer will build our brand and allow soccer consumers to identify our products as the authentic performance apparel of choice for these world-class athletes," said UnderArmour Founder and President Kevin Plank. "This is an exciting time for the sport of soccer in the United States, and we are proud to add MLS to our roster of affiliated Leagues."
