UMass Boston Leading Scorer Jane Morrisette Signs First NWHL Contract, Joins the Connecticut Whale

Connecticut Whale News Release

Jane Morrisette, the leading scorer at UMass Boston in the last two seasons, caught the attention of Whale general manager Bray Ketchum at Connecticut's recent free agent camp and has been by the Whale for 2019-20.

"I was determined to prove I belonged in the NWHL at free agent camp, just as I'm sure everyone else was," said Morrisette. "I'm not a player everyone knows, so I almost felt like an underdog going into it. That gave me even more of a drive to make this league and show who I am and what I am about as a player."

A native of Pembroke, Massachusetts, Morrisette led the Beacons with 18 points (14-4-18 and 11-7-18, respectively) in each of her last two seasons. She earned back-to-back NEHC All-Conference honors, including a first-team nod in 2017-18, and became just the third player in program history to be named a New England Hockey Writers' Association All-Region selection.

In 2017-18, she tied for first in the nation with three shorthanded goals and was fifth with five game-winners. She finished her career with the Beacons with 59 points (35-24-59) in 100 games.

"Coming off a strong college career, Jane is ready to take the next step," said Ketchum. "She is a tenacious forward with a wicked shot. I look forward to watching her grow as a player and know she will take advantage of all the NWHL has to offer. We are very excited to welcome Jane to the Whale."

Morrisette was a three-sport athlete at Pembroke High School, earning All-Conference honors in hockey, soccer and lacrosse. In addition to playing for the Whale, Morrisette will be coaching a U14 girls' team with the Boston Advantage in Hingham, Massachusetts.
