UIF Week Nine Re-cap

EVANSVILLE 33, AT FT. WAYNE 31 - The Evansville BlueCats won their second game in three weeks this past weekend at War Memorial Stadium in Ft. Wayne and moved to 3-5 on the season as they dropped the Freedom to 3-6. The BlueCats came out of the gates firing as they took a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and went into the half with a 23-10 score. Ft. Wayne did not give up on the "Guaranteed Victory Night" as they came back and out scored the BlueCats 21-10 in the second half to take a 31-30 lead with only 26 seconds left on the clock. With one last chance for the win, Ton-Ton Luzayadio stepped up for the BlueCats and nailed a 46-yard field goal to give Evansville their third win of the season. Running back, Dale Jennings and QB, Aaron Leak each rushed for two TD's for the BlueCats to total 112-yards rushing. For Ft. Wayne, Ronnie McCrae rushed for the last two Freedom touchdowns and had 71 total yards on the ground. Damien Jones and Vernon Turner each had 7.5 tackles on the night for the BlueCats to lead all players. Evansville will host the Greyhounds next week and Ft. Wayne takes the weekend off with a bye.

SIOUX FALLS 51, AT SIOUX CITY 34 - The defending champions beat the Bandits for the second time this season and remain the best team in the UIF with a perfect 9-0 record. The Bandits remain second in the West Division with a 4-5 record through the first 9 weeks of play. Leading the undefeated Storm was veteran quarterback, Terrance Bryant as he threw for a modest 137-yards but was 82% on completion from 14 of 17 passing and hit the end-zone five times with no interceptions. On the receiving end of four touchdown was first-year Storm wide receiver, James Terry. Trice Crump led all players in tackles with 8.5 total and had one interception returned for 22-yards for the Storm. Leading the Bandits was wide receiver Johnnie Ostermeyer with 113-yards and one TD. This was the first of two-games to be played in the Tyson's Event Center this season between the two West Division rivals. Both teams will have week 10 off with a bye.

IN ROCK RIVER 62, LEXINGTON 43 - The Raptors handed the Horsemen their first loss of the season to bring them to 7-1 and the Raptors move up to 6-3 on the season. The two division leaders are fighting for the top two spots going into the play-offs, along with the Sioux Falls Storm. Lexington took the early lead with a 12-7 first quarter. Rock River stepped up and dominated the second quarter of action and out scored the Horsemen 34-15 to take the 41-27 half time lead. The second half only saw more of the second quarter as the Raptors coasted to a victory, 62-43. Ben Sankey took the field once again after an injury a few weeks ago and looked as if nothing was wrong. Sankey threw for 136-yards and five TD's in the victory. Beating his old team on the ground was running back, Randy Bell, as he rushed for 95-yards and three scores. Jermain Hampton led all players with 7 tackles and three break-ups for the Raptors. Eddie Eviston threw for 147-yards and four TD completions, along with one interception in the Horsemen loss. This was the third victory for the Raptors at their new home in the Metro Centre, "The Rock Pile." Next week, Lexington heads to Bloomington and the Raptors take their bye.

BLOOMINGTON 46, AT OMAHA 40 - The Bloomington Extreme held off a late rush by the Beef to move up to 4-4 on the season and dropped Omaha to 3-5. Omaha had a late surge by Micah Arnold and RJ Rollins to tie the game at 40 with under two-minutes to play. The Extreme answered with a James Fuller TD run with 38 seconds left, but missed the PAT to keep the door open for the Beef. With one last drive to take the win, quarterback Fran Johnson, threw an interception to Dion Brown to seal the victory for the Extreme. Kenton Carr stepped in as the starting QB for Bloomington and hit 15 of 25 completions for 127-yards and three TD's. James Fuller rushed for 78-yards on the ground and two scores, including the game winner. Omaha was led by wide receiver, Micah Arnold who had 2 touchdown catches and LB, Chris Eads who led all players with 7.5 tackles. This was the second loss of the season for the Beef at the Omaha Civic Center, "The Slaughter House." Next week, Omaha heads to Peoria and Bloomington will host the Lexington Horsemen.

IN OHIO VALLEY 61, PEORIA 45 - The Greyhounds add another victory to the win column and move 3-5 on the season and drop the Rough Riders down to 0-8 for the year. This was the second time this season that the Hounds have beaten Peoria, as they took one of their three victories in Week 4 by a nail biter victory, 60-53. The Rough Riders have a tough road a head as they still face the top three teams in the league once each in the last 7-weeks. Next week, Peoria will host the Omaha Beef and the Greyhounds travel to Evansville.
