Published on April 14, 2006 under United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release
Omaha, NE- United Indoor Football (UIF) will kick off their fourth week of indoor football action this Saturday, April 15, 2006 with five games taking place. Three of the ten teams that make up the UIF are still undefeated and two teams remain winless. The Lexington Horsemen remain at 2-0 (week 2 Bye) and the Ft. Wayne Freedom, along with defending champions, Sioux Falls Storm both remain at 3-0. The Freedom ended last season with the best regular season record and the number one seed going into the 2005 UIF play-offs.
The first kick-off of the night will be when the Omaha Beef roll into Lexington (Horsemen) with a 2-1 record after a punishing victory over the Evansville BlueCats in week 3. The Beef tied the UIF record for most points scored in a contest with a 75-34 victory. Omaha also features, for the second week in a row, two players making the UIF Player of the Week. Chris Eads pulled off back-to-back awards for the defense and Ted Retzlaff takes the Special Teams award after hitting 9-9 PAT's and 4-5 field goals in week 3. Lexington is coming off a victory over the Peoria Rough Riders, 66-36, in week 3. Kick-off begins at 7:30 pm EST between the Beef and Horsemen.
Two games take place in the Heartland, when the Rock River Raptors travel to meet the Sioux Falls Storm and the Ft. Wayne Freedom visit the Sioux City Bandits. Rock River has already fallen to Sioux Falls once this season (Week 2) but is coming off a big last second victory over the Extreme after Ben Sankey hit Luke McCardle in the end zone with 2 sec. left for the 36-34 victory last Saturday. Sioux Falls remains perfect on the season after a victory over I-29 rivals, the Sioux City Bandits, last weekend. Ft. Wayne is bringing the Week 3 Offensive Player of the Week in Rocky Harvey. Harvey set a new UIF single game rushing record last week with 171-yards on the ground, breaking Freddy Jackson's record from United Bowl I of 168. Jackson now plays for the Rhein Fire in NFL-Europe. Both games have slated time of 7:05 pm CST for kick-off.
The Bloomington Extreme will welcome in the Evansville BlueCats with a 7:05 pm CST kick-off to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Both teams are coming off week 3 losses when the Extreme lost in a heartbreaker to the Raptors and the BlueCats were crushed by the Beef in the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Both teams are currently 1-2 on the season.
The last game of the week is between the only two winless teams left for 2006 when the Ohio Valley Greyhounds head to visit the Peoria Rough Riders. The Greyhounds have had two heartbreakers in the last two weeks after losing by a combined score of seven points between the two matches. They'll try and stake their first victory of the season against the Rough Riders at the Carver Arena. Kick-off is at 7:05 pm CST.
