EVANSVILLE BLUECATS 28, at OHIO VALLEY GREYHOUNDS 26 - The BlueCats (7-7) were able to come out of Wheeling W.V. with a win and a playoff berth in the 2006 post season. The Cats were able to intercept a Matt Kohn pass at the one-yard line to seal the deal in the final seconds of the game and take the win, 28-26. The BlueCats were led by QB, Aaron Leak, who had 117-yards passing from 12 of 23 attempts and two touchdowns. Leak did throw one interception as well. He also rushed for 35-yards from seven carries. On his receiving end was Tyrone Walker who had five catches for 58-yards and one TD. Matt Kohn led the Hounds (6-8) by throwing for 211-yards from 20 of 33 pass attempts and two touchdowns (he also had two interceptions). Defensively, the BlueCats, A.J. Bryant led all players with nine total tackles and one interception that sealed the win for the Cats. Next weekend the BlueCats head to Sioux Falls (14-0) and the Greyhounds travel to Rock River (10-4).
ROCK RIVER RAPTORS 38, at PEORIA ROUGH RIDERS 32 - The Raptors (10-4) squeaked out a victory to the winless Rough Riders (0-14), 38-32. The Riders held the lead for the nearly the entire game until the Raptors took the 38 - 32 lead with 1:25 left to play in the game. They did tie the score mid-way through the third quarter. The Raptors were led by Jeremiah Thompson, who had eight catches for 66-yards and two touchdowns. Ben Sankey and Ryan Aulenbacher combined for 196-yards passing from 20 of 29 passing and three touchdowns. They did through three interceptions. For Peoria, Adell Hawks rushed for three touchdowns for 86-yards from seven carries. The Rough Riders', Dominic Payne led all players with ten total tackles (8 solo, 4 assisted). Next week the Riders head to Sioux City (5-9) and the Raptors host the Ohio Valley Greyhounds (6-8).
LEXINGTON HORSEMEN 70, at FORT WAYNE FREEDOM 44 - Lexington (12-2) secured the number two seed in the UIF playoffs Saturday night with a 70-44 win over the host Freedom (4-10). The win means the Horsemen get a first-round bye and will host a semi-final game the weekend of July 22 in Lexington. Lexington got started early as William Mulder returned the opening kickoff 46 yards for a touchdown. Just about five minutes later, Chad Spencer grabbed a 22 yard pass from Eddie Eviston to give the visitors a two touchdown lead. Fort Wayne was able to cut it to single digits twice, at 40-31, and 47-38 in the third quarter, but each time the Horsemen would answer the threat with scores of their own. The Horsemen tallied 341 yards of total offense, pounding out 20 first downs. Fort Wayne compiled 204 yards of offense and 14 first downs. Spencer grabbed five passes for 95 yards, including three scores. Eddie Eviston connected on 19-of-24 passes for 258 yards and six scores. For the Freedom, Bill Skelton finished with 10 of 21 passing for 123 yards and three scores. Ronnie McCrae had 20 carries for 62 yards and two touchdowns in the place of injured Rocky Harvey. Next week the Freedom head to Omaha (7-7) and the Horsemen travel to Bloomington (5-9).
In SIOUX FALLS STORM 66, BLOOMINGTON EXTREME 35 - Sioux Falls (14-0) continues to dominate teams in the UIF with another victory over the Extreme (5-9), 66-35. The Storm jumped out to an early 14-0 lead and then went into the locker room at the half with a 31-9 score. Terrance Bryant is making his final run for the UIF MVP as he threw for 174-yards passing from 17 of 21 passing and an amazing seven touchdowns. The seven touchdowns ties the UIF record with Matt Kohn and Eddie Eviston for most in a game. Terrance completed 81% of his passes which is the second best of the season (he currently holds the record with 82.4% against the Bandits on May 20, 2006). Four different Storm players caught TD's from Bryant, with the majority going to James Terry who had six catches for 59-yards and three TD's; including an amazing catch going over the wall in the back of the end zone. Bloomington was led by running back, James Fuller who had 13 carries for 27-yards and three touchdowns. Trice Crump (SFS) led all players with 7.5 tackles (6 solo, 3 assisted) on the night. Next week the Storm host Evansville (7-7) and Bloomington host the Horsemen (12-2).
OMAHA BEEF 32, at SIOUX CITY BANDITS 30 - In a battle for playoff position, the Beef (7-7) got the win in Sioux City (5-9), 32-30. The Beef now clinch a playoff berth and Sioux City must win next week and have Ohio Valley and Bloomington both lose in order to have a shot at getting in. RJ Rollins led the offense by rushing for 48-yards and one touchdown, including an opening kick-off return for 46-yards and a score. Andy Majors threw for 109-yards from nine of twenty passing and one touchdown. He also rushed for 56-yards and a score. For the Bandits, Cori Johnson scored on all four of his pass receptions and totaled 21-yards receiving. Defensively, Omaha's Chris Eads led all players with 7.5 tackles. Next week the Beef host the Ft. Wayne Freedom (4-10) and the Bandits host the winless Rough Riders (0-14).
