UIF Week 13 Comes to a Close

OMAHA BEEF 28, at BLOOMINGTON EXTREME 10 - The Omaha Beef (6-6) moved one step closer to a playoff seed with a major win over the Extreme (5-7), 28-10. Omaha now sits tied for the fourth seed with the Greyhounds and the Extreme now must battle with Sioux City and Evansville for the final spot, as they are all tied with a 5-7 record. Only one touchdown during the contest was scored by an offensive player, when Andy Majors threw a 27-yard pass to Micah Arnold in the 2nd quarter for the Beef. Defensively, Randy Stella (OMA) recovered a fumble and returned it for 23-yards and the score and Jason Hutton (BLO) did the same as he returned one for 15-yards. Lamar Baker led all players in defense with six total tackles for the Extreme. Omaha outscored the Extreme 25-3 in the first half. Omaha kicker, Ted Retzlaff hit four field goals en route to the victory. Next week the Beef head to Evansville and the Extreme travel to Rock River.

In SIOUX FALLS STORM 25, SIOUX CITY BANDITS 17 - The Storm squeaked by a tough Bandits defense and remained perfect on the season with a 12-0 record. The Bandits (5-7) led the entire contest until the 7:40 mark in the fourth quarter. Terrance Bryant led the Storm by throwing for 133-yards and two touchdowns from 13 of 26 passing. Bryant did throw one interception in the contest. Casey Veenhof caught four passes from Bryant for 59-yards and one TD. Defensively for the Storm, Nate Fluit played a career game and was a huge deciding factor in the Storm victory. Fluit contributed 4.5 total sacks for a loss of 20-yards and one blocked field goal attempt. The blocked kick and two of the sacks came all in the last part of the fourth quarter, to seal help seal the victory for the Storm. His teammate, Mark Blackburn led all players with 9 total tackles on the night. For Sioux City, QB Hosea Harris threw for 75-yards and two TD's before going down in the second half. Johnnie Ostermeyer caught six passes for 48-yards and one TD for the Bandits. Next week the Storm travel to Sioux City for another rematch and the fourth and final game between the two division rivals this season.

In EVANSVILLE BLUECATS 70, PEORIA ROUGH RIDERS 31 - The BlueCats keep their playoff hopes alive as they move to 5-7 on the season and find themselves tied for the final playoff spot. The Rough Riders continue their losing streak at 0-12, and have been eliminated from playoff contention for 2006. Leading the BlueCats was QB, Aaron Leak, who threw for 168-yard and five touchdowns and two interceptions. Leak also rushed for one score on the ground. Dale Jennings had a tremendous game rushing, as he went for 70-yards and two touchdowns from 13 carries on the night. Levandar Segars caught five catches for 49-yards and three scores. For Peoria, new QB, Porter Andrew threw for 92-yards and three TD's, but also had five interceptions in the contest. Defensively, Peoria's Carlos Lattimor led all players with 10.5 total tackles. Next week the BlueCats host Omaha and Peoria travels to Lexington.

In ROCK RIVER RAPTORS 29, FT. WAYNE FREEDOM 27 - In one of the most exciting wins of the season, the Raptors (8-4) held off a high powered Freedom (3-9) offense, 29-27. Dillon Pieffer nailed a 38-yard field goal as time expired to lead the Raptors to victory by one point. The Freedom had taken the two-point lead with only 33 seconds left in the game after a 24-yard field goal by Doug Daniel. Ben Sankey nearly doubled his interceptions on the season as he threw two in the contest and now has five total on the season. Sankey threw for 155-yards and three touchdowns from 18 of 30 passing. On his receiving end was Tyrece Butler, who caught four throws for 73-yards and two scores. For the Freedom, Adrian Reese carried the offense with nine catches for 89-yards and one touchdown. Leading all defensive players was Raptor, Greg Cole, who had 8.5 total tackles and two pass break-ups. With this victory the Raptors now sealed the Central Division and one of the top three playoff seeds. Next week the Raptors host Bloomington and Ft. Wayne hosts the Greyhounds.

LEXINGTON HORSEMEN 54, at OHIO VALLEY GREYHOUNDS 41 - In a game of offense, the Horsemen (10-2) held off a scrappy Greyhounds (6-6) offense, 54-41. Eddie Eviston led the Horsemen with 114-yards passing and four touchdowns from only 12 of 17 passing. Eviston also had one TD on the ground. Harry Lewis caught 7 throws for 89-yards and one TD. For the Hounds, Matt Kohn threw for 204-yards, 4 TD's, 2 interceptions from 21 of 30 passing. Darrell Dowery and James Taylor combined for 140-yards receiving and three touchdowns. Defensively, Brock Dodrill led all players with 11.5 total tackles for the Hounds. The Horsemen have now sealed the East Division with this victory. Next week the Horsemen host the Rough Riders and the Greyhounds travel to Bloomington.
