UIF Week 12 Preview
June 9, 2006 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release
SIOUX CITY BANDITS (5-5), at LEXINGTON HORSEMEN (8-2) - These two teams battled in Week 7 to a close 30-20 Lexington win. Sioux City held a one-point lead at halftime and went on to score only seven points in the second half. Sioux City's 20 points is their second lowest output of the season. The Bandits defense has only allowed more than 35 points twice this season. Quarterback Hosea Harris received his first start of the season last week and led the Bandits to their third highest scoring game of the season. Lexington wide receiver Chad Spencer continues to dominate opposing defenses. Spencer is second in the UIF in pass receptions with 49. He has also accounted for a league-leading 17 touchdown receptions. Quarterback Eddie Eviston is leading the UIF in passing yards with 1756 this season. The Horsemen defense has created the second most turnovers in the league as they have 25 total takeaways. The Horsemen can clinch a playoff berth with a win. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 pm EST at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY.
FT. WAYNE FREEDOM (3-7), at EVANSVILLE BLUECATS (3-7) - Evansville's last victory came against the Freedom in Week 9. BlueCats kicker Ton-Ton Luzayadio kicked a 46-yard field goal as time expired to defeat the Freedom 33-31. Luzayadio is the highest scoring player in the UIF as he has managed to score 116 points this season. Running back Dale Jennings scored two touchdowns on the ground in the Week 9 match-up. Jennings has been solid all season and has compiled 14 touchdowns, which ranks fourth in the UIF. Evansville's 48 points last week are the most they have scored this season. Fort Wayne running back Rocky Harvey made his return to the line-up last week. Harvey has been injured since April 22 and still leads the team in rushing yards with 462, which ranks second in the UIF. Harvey's return should help the Freedom offense as they are scoring the second least amount of points per game with 34.0; however Harvey did re-injure his ankle last weekend and may be questionable come game-time to whether or not he'll suit up. Defensively, the Freedom are tied for fourth in the league in turnovers forced with 17 and defensive back Scott Heighland leads the team with five interceptions. Game-time is at 7:05 pm CST at Roberts Stadium, "The Fish Bowl."
OHIO VALLEY GREYHOUNDS (5-5), at BLOOMINGTON EXTREME (5-5) - With both Ohio Valley and Bloomington tied with a 5-5 record, the result of this game will be extremely important. If Ohio Valley wins they will have swept the Extreme this season and will hold the important tiebreaker edge. The Greyhounds defeated the Extreme in Week 5 by a score of 67-29. Ohio Valley continues to have one of the most exciting offenses in the UIF by passing for an average of 171.5 yards per game, which is second best in the UIF. Ohio Valley is scoring the fourth most points in the league with 42.7 per game. Bloomington squeaked by Evansville for the second time this season with a 51-48 victory last week. Besides their dominating win over Peoria, Bloomington has not beaten an opponent by more than seven points this season. Bloomington is the only team in the UIF with a .500 or better record to have allowed more points than they have scored. Bloomington has allowed 414 points, while they have scored 406. The game will kick-off at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in the heart of Bloomington, with a 7:05 pm CST kick-off.
PEORIA ROUGH RIDERS (0-10), at SIOUX FALLS STORM (10-0) - Peoria's nine-point defeat last week was the closest to a victory they have had since they lost by seven in Week 4 to Ohio Valley. Wide receiver Phil Taylor Jr. has been the rock of the Rough Rider offense this season. Taylor is tied for seventh in the UIF in pass receptions with 41. He has also compiled 407 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns to go along with 67 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. One position that has not been stable for the Rough Riders is quarterback. Peoria has seen five different players take snaps this season. Sioux Falls became the first team in the UIF to clinch a playoff berth with their victory over Omaha last weekend. The Storm allowed their second most points of the season last week (38), but are still allowing the least amount of points per game in the UIF with 27.8. Storm Quarterback Terrance Bryant is completing 61% of his passes, which ranks second in the UIF. Ken Horton is leading the team in reception with 32, while hauling in seven touchdowns. With a win and a Rock River loss, Sioux Falls will clinch a first-round bye in the UIF Playoffs. Sioux Falls will host the game in the "Storm Shelter," Sioux Falls Arena, with a 7:05 pm kick-off.
ROCK RIVER RAPTORS (7-3), at OMAHA BEEF (4-6) - Rock River is on a four-game winning streak and has knocked off Lexington twice in a row. Besides losing twice to Sioux Falls, Omaha is the only team to defeat the Raptors. Omaha went into Rockford in Week 6 and came away with the 41-30 victory. The Raptors defense has given up the third most touchdowns in the UIF this season with 56, compared to 48 given up by Omaha. Quarterback Ben Sankey continues to impress as he was named UIF Offensive Player of the Week for his performance last Saturday vs. Lexington. Sankey is completing 59.5% of his passes and has only thrown two interceptions on the season. Omaha may have found the answers to it's offensive problems in running back Jamar Day and quarterback Andy Majors. The tandom combined for 193 yards of offense and four touchdowns last week. Omaha nearly knocked off the undefeated Storm last weekend as they only lost by 2 points after a Beef fourth quarter comeback, 50-48. The Raptors will head into the "Slaughter House," Omaha Civic Center, for a 7:05 pm CST kick-off.
