UIF Week 1 Wrap-Up

Omaha, NE- United Indoor Football (UIF) kicked-off their second season of indoor football this past weekend and included a few surprises along the way. Action started on Friday night with the Lexington Horsemen hosting the Ohio Valley Greyhounds. The Horsemen held off the Hounds with a 38-24 victory at the legendary Rupp Arena.

The defending UIF champions, the Sioux Falls Storm, traveled to Omaha for an I-29 battle with the Beef. The Storm came out firing and scored in the first five minutes of the game and never looked back. Sioux Falls took the game with a 51-29 win to round out the first night of UIF action.

Saturday night saw three games across the Midwest in Peoria, IL, Ft. Wayne, IN, and Evansville, IN. In Peoria, the Bloomington Extreme stepped on the field for the first time in the franchises history and captured the win over the Rough Riders in a second half surge by Dusty Burk in a 44-40 victory.

Last seasons championship runner-ups, the Sioux City Bandits, traveled to Ft. Wayne to meet last seasons number one team, the Freedom. The Freedom, under new leadership in Head Coach Dan Pifer, took the win with a score of 28-23.

Rounding out Week 1 in the UIF was the Rock River Raptors and Evansville BlueCats. In Evansville, two new Head Coaches clashed in John Hart (EVA) and Rik Richards (ROC) as the Raptors pulled away with a victory, 47-36.

Be sure to catch one of the four games next weekend as Sioux Falls (1-0) travels to Rock River (1-0), Ft. Wayne (1-0) to Bloomington (1-0), Omaha (0-1) to Sioux City (0-1) and Evansville (0-1) travels to Ohio Valley (0-1).
