UIF Names Week 12 Players of the Week

June 14, 2006 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release

Omaha, NE: United Indoor Football (UIF) is pleased to announce that Andy Majors and RJ Rollins of the Omaha Beef (5-6) have been awarded the Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week with their victory over the Rock River Raptors (7-4) this past weekend, 70-54. Sioux Falls Storm (11-0) defensive end, Nate Fluit took the Defensive Player of the Week after he helped lead the Storm defense to a win over the Rough Riders (0-11), 71-0 this past weekend.

Andy Majors received his first start of the 2006 season for the Beef at the quarterback position and was honored with the Offensive Player of the Week. Majors is a dual player who can play either the wide receiver slot or take the snaps. He proved his ability in Week 11 when he led a fourth quarter comeback against the Storm by rushing for two touchdowns in the final minutes at the QB position and brought the Beef to within two points. Unfortunately he couldn't cap his tremendous effort with a win, but he did open the eyes of Head Coach Robert Fuller, who decided to give Majors his first start of the season. Andy only threw 11 passes and completed on 7 of the attempts for four touchdowns and 108-yards. Majors also rushed for one score as well. Majors helped lead the offense to a scoring summary that consisted of 14 drives and 12 scores. This was the second time that the Beef have beat the Raptors this season as all four of their losses come from Omaha and Sioux Falls.

For the first time in his UIF career, defensive end Nate Fluit, from the Sioux Falls Storm has been awarded the Defensive Player of the Week. Fluit had a career game against the Peoria Rough Riders this past weekend as he had six solo tackles, with 5 tackles for a loss for a total of 34-yards. Fluit recorded three sacks on the night for a loss of 30-yards en route to victory. He also had one blocked field goal. Fluit now leads the UIF with 10.5 sacks on the season and in tackles for a loss with a total of 18.5 for 82-yards through eleven games. Fluit and the undefeated Storm will host the Sioux City Bandits (5-6) this coming Saturday at the Sioux Falls Arena.

For the second time this season, Omaha's RJ Rollins receives player of the week honors; but this time it's for Special Teams. Rollins returned four kick-offs against the raptors and totaled 133-yards and returned one for a touchdown. On the night he totaled 223 all-purpose yardage as he also rushed for 90-yards and one TD. On the season Rollins is tied for the most touchdowns in the UIF with Randy Bell of Rock River. Both running backs have 20 on the season. Rollins is only the second kick returner this season to receive Special Teams Player of the Week. Next week Rollins and Majors take on the Bloomington Extreme (5-6) at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Receiving Player of the Week Honorable Mention are: Offense, Willie Austin (OVG); Defense, Vernon Turner (EVA); and Special Teams (tie), Peter Christofilakos (BLO) & Colin Barber (LEX).
