
UHL names monthly award winners

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Tuesday that Chicago Hounds forward Todd Grant has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Month and Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Ryan Nie has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Month for March.
Grant completed the month with 25 points (11g, 14a) and a plus-8 rating in 18 games played. He had seven multiple-point games during the month, and he ended the month on a nine-game point streak. He scored game-winning goals in a 1-0 victory over the Rockford IceHogs on Mar. 7 and in a 3-2 win at Port Huron on Mar. 23. In addition, he played well on the Hounds' special teams with two power-play goals, three power-play assists and three short-handed assists in March. The 26-year-old native of Indianapolis, Indiana, leads the Hounds in scoring with 53 points on 25 goals and 28 assists. He is tied for 17th in the league in goals.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Month include: Bloomington forward Mike Zbriger, Elmira right wing Frank Littlejohn, Flint left wing Jeff Zehr, Kalamazoo center Kory Karlander, Fort Wayne defenseman Mario Larocque, Muskegon right wing Kevin Cooper, Port Huron left wing Scott Wray, Quad City forward Chad Woollard and Rockford center Preston Mizzi.
Nie finished the month with an 7-1-0 record, a 1.38 goals against average (GAA), a .948 save percentage (SPCT) and two shutouts. With two streaks of three or more consecutive victories, he did not allow more than two goals in any appearance this month. He stopped 39 shots in a 2-0 blanking of Muskegon on Mar. 7, and he made 27 saves in a 2-0 shutout against Port Huron on Mar. 25. In addition, he posted a 4-0-0 record against the league-leading Muskegon Fury. The 21-year-old native of Nanticoke, Ontario, has recorded wins in five consecutive starts, and he leads the league with a 1.95 GAA, a .932 SPCT and seven shutouts in 33 appearances this season.
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Month include: Bloomington's Kris Tebbs, Chicago's Marty Magers, Elmira's David Lemanowicz, Flint's Jason Muzzatti, Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre, Muskegon's Clayton Pool, Port Huron's Dustin Traylen, Quad City's Jason Tapp and Rockford's Frederic Cloutier.
