JACKSONVILLE, FL - Monday, September 26, 2011 - Three Virginia Destroyers - quarterback CHRIS GREISEN, linebacker TONY TAYLOR and kicker DELBERT ALVARADO - have earned Week 2 United Football League Player of the Week honors on offense, defense and special teams respectively.

The Destroyers improved to 2-0 on Saturday night with a dominating 34-17 over the Las Vegas Locomotives in their first-ever home game in front of a 12,167-strong crowd that braved stormy weather at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

United Football League Players of Week 2

Offense - Chris Greisen, QB, Virginia Destroyers

Defense - Tony Taylor, LB, Virginia Destroyers

Special Teams - Delbert Alvarado, K, Virginia Destroyers

Greisen improved his record to 5-0 as a UFL regular-season starting quarterback after going 18-for-23 for 204 yards and two touchdowns against Las Vegas. Those two touchdowns were a 35-yarder to wide receiver Aundrae Allison in the second quarter and a 31-yarder to wideout Huey Whittaker in the third quarter.

"I can't for the life of me figure out why he's not playing in the National Football League, because he is clearly an NFL player," said Destroyers Head Coach MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER. "There are some people who just have this certain intangible quality, and he has it - he has that ability to get people to respond to him so that they go where he wants them to go."

Greisen added: "The offensive line was why we were able to do so well. I only hit the ground twice all night, and they were opening holes for Adrian (Peterson) and Dominic (Rhodes)."

Greisen was 3-0 as a starter during the 2010 regular season with the Florida Tuskers, and finished 58-for-84 for 664 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. He threw for 346 yards and ran for two touchdowns in the 2010 UFL Championship Game and later signed with the Dallas Cowboys. An Arena Football League veteran, he played the 2010 season with the Milwaukee Iron, and led the AFL in passer rating (128.2) and passing yards (5,146).

Taylor had a team-high eight total tackles (six solo) to go with two tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry for a defense which kept the Locos off the scoreboard until the third quarter, and gave up 273 yards for the game.

Taylor made his UFL debut for the Florida Tuskers in 2010, starting the final three regular season games and the UFL Championship Game at middle linebacker. He had two interceptions and 23 total tackles before posting four solo tackles in the title game. The former Georgia Bulldogs star played in all 16 regular season games for the Atlanta Falcons in 2007 and registered 12 tackles.

Alvarado was 4-for-4 on extra points and 2-for-2 on field goals of 31 and 35 yards, giving him a league-leading total of 21 points for the season. He also averaged 61.6 yards per kickoff with a touchback.

Honduran-born Alvarado served as both the kicker and punter for most of his collegiate career at South Florida. In 48 career games, he was 91-for-93 on extra points, 26-for-47 on field goals and averaged 40.3 yards on punts.
