U.S. National under-17 falls to Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. Zach Golembiewski (St. Claire, Mich.) scored for the U.S. National Under-17 Team, but Traverse City used three power-play goals to secure a 4-1 victory in North American Hockey League action Friday night at the Center Ice Arena.

Team USA netted the first goal of the contest at the 11:51 mark of the first period when Golembiewski notched a power-play goal off assists from Tyler Amburgey (Rowlett, Texas) and Cam Fowler (Farmington Hills, Mich.).

The North Stars knotted the score at one apiece with 1:56 left in the opening frame, thanks to Nathan Urbaniak's even-strength goal. Urbaniak gave Traverse City a 2-1 lead with a power-play marker at 14:52 of the middle stanza. Jarrod LaBelle added another goal with a man advantage at 17:21 to stake the home team to a 3-1 advantage heading into the second intermission.

Kyle Bonis chipped in a third power-play goal at the 2:35 mark of the third period for the North Stars to complete the evening's scoring.

Brandon Maxwell (Winter Park, Fla.) finished with 18 saves for Team USA, while Brandon Stephenson turned away 22 shots for Traverse City.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team (22-22-1) concludes its series with the North Stars tomorrow night at Center Ice Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
