
U.S. National U17 Team Falls to Green Bay, 5-1

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Ryan Haggerty (Stamford, Conn.) notched the lone goal as the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Green Bay Gamblers, 5-1, here tonight.
With 1:51 to play in the first period, Grant Arnold notched the game's first goal after he knocked down David Makowski's point shot and banged the puck home from the left side to give the Gamblers a 1-0 advantage.
The Gamblers added three more goals in the second second stanza to make it 4-0. Anders Lee knocked a rebound past netminder John Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) at 6:16 for a shorthanded marker. At 11:21, Chris Crane picked up a lose puck on the left side of the net and slid it past Gibson to give Green Bay a three-goal advantage. David Makowski notched a power-play marker with just 39 seconds to play in the period.
Haggerty put Team USA on the board at 7:58 of the final stanza after he chipped Michael Paliotta's (Westport, Conn.) rebound past goaltender Steven Summerhays from the middle slot for a power-play tally. Crane made it 5-1 after he slipped a shot through Gibson at 10:25.
Gibson ended the night with 37 saves.
Team USA will close out the weekend series Saturday against the Gamblers at 7:05 p.m. EDT at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
NOTES: Michael Vilardo (Geneva, Ill.) was added to the roster of the U.S. National Under-17 Team for the remainder of the season. He made his NTDP debut tonight and will wear No. 89 ... Ryan Haggerty extended his team point lead to six (3-3). He has notched at least one point in each of Team USA's last three games.
