Two Top Teams Battle for 2022 MLS Cup as LAFC Hosts the Philadelphia Union to Crown a New League Champion

November 5, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

LOS ANGELES - The grand finale of the 2022 MLS season features the league's top two teams from the regular season, as the Los Angeles Football Club hosts the Philadelphia Union in 2022 MLS Cup - the league's championship match - on Saturday, Nov. 5 (4 p.m. ET, FOX/Univision/TUDN/TSN/TVA Sports).

The 2022 MLS Cup will be the first MLS Cup match to feature the top seeds from the Eastern and Western Conferences for the first time since 2003. The winner of 2022 MLS Cup will be the ninth different club to lift the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy since 2013 as both LAFC and the Philadelphia Union enter Saturday's match as MLS Cup debutants.

LAFC finished top of the MLS regular season standings for the second time in five seasons, narrowly beating out the Union for the Supporters' Shield on total wins. The club defeated crosstown rival LA Galaxy in the Western Conference semifinals in a thrilling 3-2 match before overcoming Austin FC in the Western Conference Finals to earn the honor of hosting 2022 MLS Cup.

The Union led the league in goals scored (72) and conceded the fewest goals (26) of any team in MLS during the 2022 regular season. The Union defeated FC Cincinnati in the Eastern Conference Semifinals before completing a come-from-behind victory over reigning MLS Cup champions New York City FC to earn their first-ever appearance in an MLS Cup match.
