Two Predators Players Get Chance To Make NFL Rosters
August 7, 2013 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Orlando Predators News Release
ORLANDO, FL - After a strong finish to the 2013 AFL season, the Orlando Predators now have a chance to be well represented in the National Football League. Defensive linemen Xavier Proctor has been signed to the 90-man roster of the Detroit Lions, while wide receiver Maurice Williams has a tryout with the Indianapolis Colts.
Proctor was a late addition to the Predators this season after going undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft, and was able to contribute to the team right away. "Xavier is a great athlete and an even better competitor," Predators head coach Doug Plank said. "His time here was short, but he certainly made an impact on our roster." The defensive lineman has signed an undrafted free-agent contract with the Lions, and he will suite up for their game against the New York Jets on Friday. Proctor will have a chance to make the final 53-man roster or potentially be signed to the teams practice squad.
Maurice Williams on the other hand was assigned to the Predators after the Cleveland Gladiators placed him on reassignment. The wide receiver struggled early on during the season, but he would go on to be a key contributor down the stretch for the Predators. "Maurice struggled to catch the football early on, but it was amazing to see the progress that he made throughout the season," said Plank. "He is an extremely gifted athlete and I really believe that he has a bright future ahead of him." Williams would go on to catch 32 passes for 443 yards and 11 touchdowns for Orlando this season.
