Port Huron Icehawks News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks of the International Hockey League announced that they have signed defenseman George Halkidis and left wing Kai Magnussen to contracts for the 2009-10 season. Per team policy, details of the deals were not disclosed.
Halkidis (6-1, 200 lbs) turned professional in the 2003-04 season after four successful seasons of junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League. His five-year pro career has included stints in the East Coast Hockey League, Central Hockey League and three seasons in Italy. An offensive-minded defenseman, he has tallied 100 points (20g, 80a) in 219 professional games.
The 27-year old native of Newmarket, Ontario, Canada did not play last season due to injury. In the 2007-08 season, he played with Alleghe HC in Italy and recorded 13 points (1g, 12a) in 32 games. Halkidis is a former teammate of Icehawks defenseman Daniel Tetrault. They played together in the 2006-07 season while with the Wichita Thunder (CHL).
"George is a highly skilled player. He is used to playing lots of minutes and will bring offense to our game from the blueline," Head Coach/General Manager Stan Drulia said. "He is ready for the season and we are excited to have him on our team."
