August 18, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release

The Tucson Toros scored twice in the 8th inning to wrap up their roadtrip with a 5-4 win over the Edmonton Capitals Tuesday.

Tucson starter James Garcia surrendered 4 runs in the 1st inning, but settled down thereafter to allow the Toros to claw their way back into the game. Single tallies in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th inning brought the Toros within a run of the Capitals. Meanwhile Garcia followed his rough opening frame with 6 scoreless innings.

Leftfielder Ron Perodin led the 8th off with a single and a stolen base. Shortstop Ryan Priddy doubled to tie the game, and later came around to score the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Second Baseman Jose Valdez to make the score 5-4 Tucson.

The Toros one-two punch in the bullpen of lefty Reid Price and closer Emiliano Fruto combined to strike out 3 Capitals in 2 scoreless innings to seal the victory. Garcia's persistence paid off with his 5th win of the season, while Fruto notched his 15th save.

Catcher Luis Apodaca was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, adding an RBI and a run scored. Perodin, Priddy and First Baseman Cristibal Santana all finished with 2 hits.

The Toros will travel home on Wednesday before beginning a three game homestand at Hi Corbett Field hosting the Tijuana Cimarrones starting on Thirsty Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
